OM 603 pistons/rods in OM 606 N/A
OM 603 pistons/rods in OM 606 N/A
Title says it all.
I've searched this and other forums and can't find the info.
Will the OM 603 turbo pistons and rods work in the OM 606 NA block?
The N/A already has the squirters, and my understanding is the pistons and rods are the weak link.
I have a 606 N/A, and have located an '87 603 core, from which I've already liberated the turbo IP...
Any info or BTDTs would be much appreciated.
I'm also looking for a 606 exhaust manifold, if you can tell where this is going..
Best regards,
Mark
603 pistons not good to use at 606.
606 weak link is not the pistons. Rods are the weak link.
I have drive and dyno 470hp on N/A pistons on 5syl.
For me the 606N/A rods and the 603 turbo rods looks to be the same so I don't think the older turbo rods are any stronger. 603 pistons will not fit. So use your 606 N/A rods and pistons. They will probably work fine unless you are going for high boost and rpm. I have 606 turbo exhaust manifold for sale but it will be cheaper if you can find one in USA.
Here are the 603 and 606 rod specs ("Testing, repairing connecting rod"), the 603 turbo and 606 NA are indeed pretty similar, although still different part numbers:

606 turbo rods are much stronger then 603 Rods.

Yup, that would make you over pass the known breaking period in a normally stock 603. which is rougly 350hp, I think so, not 100% sure about that.

How about off the shelf rods. Possibly some gasser motor built rods, or H-beam rods, that have very similar piston pin diameters. That need a small amoun of machine work to make fit for cheap.
I am big into the m102 16vlv coswrth world. And someone mentions some type of built Lexus v8 motor rods were very similar to the m102 motor rods specs that were very well built for much cheaper than stock rods or built stock spec rods.
Dude...you got a killer deal on those rods. I need to find a deal like that one day!
