04-16-2012, 03:16 PM #1I have a '79 300TD I bought for $200 which the owner said oil starvation problems but I am not sure I believe him. Should I try to get the engine running and add turbodiesel bits OR just get a turbo diesel and drop it in?

I would still check and see if you can get it running but a turbo engine is far more reliable in the long run under boost

04-16-2012, 04:02 PM #2I would swap the turbo diesel in if that's what your after! It has stronger rods/pistons a hardened crank and piston squirters it is a lot stronger in the long run!
I would still check and see if you can get it running but a turbo engine is far more reliable in the long run under boost

My friend was gonna do this with a 616 and run it on veg, and use it to power the 500 gallon biodiesel processor he was building. Unfortunately that project got put on hold so he never went through with it
-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )
-1974 240D, FRESH PAINT!!!!!!
