He folks, I have the two wire lead that pics up a tach signal from the Flywheel ( orignally in a 84 190D OM601) is there an aftermarket tach that I can terminate to these two leads to in order to provide an RPM measurement?

1984 Mercedes 190D, A$$ Packed then totaled by ins. company.
However I was able to utilize it's heart to give life to...

1987 Suzuki Samurai, Powered by MB OM601 and 4 speed auto.

I'm not sure on the newer Benz what is up with the tach signal but the older ones went through a tachometer amplifier and some one on one of the groups was making new amps that had been set up for aftermarket tachs hope that helps!

good luck

p.s. check with some of the 4runner conversion peoples I think that where I read that

1987 300SDL 6spd manual om606.962 swap project

The flywheel sensor picks up 144 pulses per rotation, if you can find something that works with that then great.

How about the W signal from the alternator, that's far more likely to be supported.

(04-23-2012, 02:59 PM)aaa The flywheel sensor picks up 137 pulses per rotation, if you can find something that works with that then great.

I'm looking into some digital, programmable units from Altronic and others. I work with this stuff quite a bit in my day job as a PM for a group that specializes in emmissions retrofitting and engine automation for large stationary compressors and generators.

Also, I don't have a factory Alt anymore, mine went bad and I replaced it with a 120 AMP, externally regulated nippondenso unit.
