HI

I have mounted a om605 in a c180. everything is working fine.
But i need ideas how to shut off the engine.
A electronic vacum valve that is closed when ignition on (12v) and open when ignition off(0V) would do the trick. Any idea where i can find a valve like that?

Or other ideas?

The thing with these solenoids is they aren't designed to be run for long periods of time. I always carry a spare.

When I fitted the OM.617 to the old W123 280TE chassis, there was no provision on the steering-column/ign switch for the vac-valve....

The 280TE used a three-way solenoid valve that I used to supply vac to the stop-diaphragm when it was Not powered, and air-pressure to the diaphragm when it was powered....

Ive NO idea of the original function of this valve or its part-number, but it was mounted on the inner wheelhouse near the original petrol fuel-injection system, and piped up to it....
--I didnt even re-mount it, just connected up the pipework and a ign switched supply--Works well ....

I am looking at using a solenoid to control vacuum to the actuator on my 190e / 616, but I do not like the idea of the loss of power killing the engine. One plus in the reliability coulomb with these engines is as long as you keep them cool and full of oil, they will run forever, even with no electrical power.

I drew up a schematic last fall that used a latching relay and some capacitors, and the solenoid would only be energized momentarily to shut down the engine, then it would de-energize so the batt would not go dead.

The design goal was to not shut down the engine if electrical power was lost. I need to find out if the 190d used a vacuum shut off, or if it was electrical before I go through the hassle of building the control circuit.

Right now am using a hand vacuum pump to shut off the car.

Just something to keep in mind.

The 190d used a vacuum circuit to actuate the vacuum cutoff on the pump, but there is no mention of it in the haynes manual, and I cannot find a workshop manual. Best bet is to find a broken 190d and remove its ignition barrel and vac-cut system.

DIY manifold, compound, 722.6 controller, built IP.
