Well i did it. I was trying to.bridge my rheostat and realized i was out of solder after cluster was out. Than decided i am only driving half a mile i dont need my alternator charging, its all good! I wont drive with my cluster.

I realized a block into my drive that oil was being urinated on me and all over my floor and dash from the oil line to the pressure gauge. 20$ at the car wash trying (not fully achieving) to get all the oil off the carpet. Oil is still in my steering column so it continues to drip on me while driving. I have to wear shorts and continuously wipe oil off my leg untill it is all gone. I will probably strap a rag under there to soak up the mess.

By the way the bridge did not work so i still have no gauge lights. FML

On an up note i won a 25$ gift card to amoco at my college car show. Award category....junkiest car.

Ahhh man, I too realised exactly what had happened as soon as I read the title. That's okay I'm sure everybody does something stupid with their cars at some point, lol, like how I've had to fix my broken flex pipe twice now Confused

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )
-1974 240D, FRESH PAINT!!!!!!

I was removing the fan blade/fan clutch on my w116 300sd and could not reach the last bolt on the bottom on the fan so I figured I would just bump the engine over with the starter brilliant right!

You can see where this is going!

my vacuum system was unhooked at the time and it fired up on a 1/3 of a Revelation or bump of the starter with 1 bolt holding the fan on and one loose bolt that I could not get to come out all the way it started up and the loose bolt flew off and put a hole in the wall in my garage and the fan started wobbling badly and I had to reach under the hood to get it shut off but my linkage would just barley kill the engine holding the stop button took 30 seconds to shut it off. After it stopped the fan literally fell off. Thank god nobody was hurt I had to yell at people to stand back in case it flew off!

Lol, i expected a comment on those. ;-) they are the only shoe I can throw in the sink, scrub clean, and dry in a matter of minutes.

One pair of jeans completely soaked in oil. They were pretty raggy so they went to the garbage, once i thought the car was clean, i put another pair of jeans and and covered them in oil. My birkenstocks are covered in oil. (birkenstock comment?)

lol. Big Grin

Everybody does idiotic stuff, not to worry.

I once tried to put an engine fire out with washer fluid, forgetting that washer fluid usually has methanol or ethanol in it. oops.

Result= Fireball, and much bigger problem.

Will and drop you guys have some dangerous stuff in your past. Glad you came out ok. Honestly those stories both sound like something i would do and i am a bit smarter reading them.

I feel like we should retitle this and create a thread like. "Dumb stuff ive done" or "wont do that again". Could be a real learning experience.
