Hello,

I'm ready to buy a 70 or 80 Mercedes, and I have been looking on the w123 300d for some time, but now I realise that the car I like most is the w115, since it brings me some of my past memory's since my dad had one blue w115 220d.
Now I found a good one, 74 US version, with the 3.0D engine that is very rare in my country.

My question for you guys is, in the curious way, is there room to install a OM603 or 606 in the W115? Smile

I remember reading something here on the forum that is a bit difficult but maybe could be done or maybe not even possible!? I don't remember and can't find the post...

PS: I'm going to see the car soon and would like some advise please.

Thanks

Clearance issues. See this later 617 swap, it was a tight fit.

So the OM617 turbo version is the only (powerfull) newer engine we can trow in!?

PS: How much power the OM617 can stand? I'd just love to get a OM603 in there, ohh well! Smile

Thanks

I don't know if the om603 will fit. I think you would run into many of the same issues as a turbo 617. No space for the oil filter housing, no space for the turbo.

Yes it wuill fit,not too much hassle. I know this because somewhere I have pics of a W113 pagoda with a 603 installed . In fact i think i have pics of one with a turbo version too.

Could you please post some pics if you find them!? Shy

PS: if the w115 allready have the 3.0D OM617 NA from factory, installing a turbo could be easier than installing the complete engine.
The OM603 is longer but on the sides I don't know if is larger than the 617.

The turbo was also relocated in that video, normally the wastegate points downward instead of to the side.

The car is yours?
Where can I find more info about that car?

PS: about the transmission, came also from the W124?

Thanks

Here are some still shots I grabbed from that w114 video to get a better look.

Compare to a stock w115 engine bay.

Obviously there is a lot of removing and modifications of the engine bay as well as modifying the 603 to fit.

No, it is not, I can just see the the turbo is out of its normal position, there must be a custom 90 degree tube underneath it from the exhaust manifold. Presumably custom oil supply and drain as well.

I would think a w124 trans would be the easiest solution, I don't know what's being used there.

Thank you for your reply's,

I've been searching for this w114 to know some more information's but no luck!
Since the w115 I'm looking for have auto gearbox, and it's bigger than the manual version, for what I could find on the forum, the W124 auto gearbox could fit without major modifications to the transmission tunnel?

The only problem I'm looking on the photos is space for a A/A intercooler!
With some modifications maybe also the OM606 could fit... I have to take some measures, but first I need to buy the car! LOL
