anyone ever adapt 4lug to 5lug? adapters available?
anyone ever adapt 4lug to 5lug? adapters available?
heres why, im sitting on this set of perfectly usable VW 15" rims that are 4 lug, but are very close to what a nice set of AMG ronals would have looked like.
I wonder if there is an adapter to take the 4x108 pattern of the tires and make them fit on a MB
pic-
Well, VW guys just swap to audi hubs so they don't make adapters, and they probably wouldn't be safe. Plus isn't the offset on those way too high? Need to find something in 5x112 with a low (sub et30) offset or your going to need spacers.
I have seen some spacers that change the bolt/lug pattern at the same time, I don't see why you couldn't find one to go from 5 lug to 4, just might take a bit of searching around online
I've seen 4-5 lug but never a 5-4 lug spacer/ adapter. As for safety... Ive had 2" spacers on my 8,000+ lb truck that gets beat on like it stole something from me. That and I have 42?mm spacers on my Volvo. I've never had a problem with either one.
I was doing research, looks like I can have this company adapterkings.com make them. The stock mb pattern is 5x112 right? The option to go from 5x112 to 4x108 exists on their adapter drop down menu. Looks like it would either cost me 220 bucks, or 440. I need to call and clarify how the pricing works, and if it could be done. Looks like the minimal depth of the adapter they could make would be about 1.25 inches thick, going from wheel bolts to 4 studs, so that might take care of the offset too, all knocked on the head at once
Would be nice to use those rims above, they are powdercoated too. I definitely need to figure out the offset too, id be mounting these to my 115 chassis. 220 bucks might be doable for an AMG look. I don't have centercaps, so potentially I could make something that would benzify these rims
EDIT: 440 bucks. It would be using what would start out as a VW/porshce 5lug to 4lug adapter that is partially custom in hub sizes. Hmmm, ill figure out how thick it would have to be, and then think about it. On one hand, that's not cheap, on the other, I already have a very nice set of balanced and mounted rims that would pass for ronals with the right centercaps
(06-02-2012, 07:05 AM)vstef_is Wouldn't it be cheaper to
1) sell above rims
2) add $440 to what you get on them
3) buy MB rims that you like
I'm just asking...

Is there enough material to have them redrilled? Or perhaps weld them up and redrilled to the correct pattern?

larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?
Machine shop! Use class 10.9 bolts to hold the adapter onto the merc. Get yourself some studs of the size of your liking and put them through the adapter. Should run you like $50 per adapter-

Seems like I saw some like this on craigslist for $300 recently? Not sure where though, but they were MB. Or maybe it was eBay? I can't remember, getting up at 5:30 to work 10 hours is starting to take its toll

so to follow up, no one ever showed any interest in these rims and I forgot about them on the shelf, but out of the blue one day, some kid in a volvo showed up in response to my ancient craigslist post, and bought them, which was a pleasant surprise.
look pretty good on his car and fit perfectly, I never even knew any volvos had 4-lugs-
