I just stumbled upon your post and have to say I was impressed. Have you ever considered building these to sell? please email me if you would consider doing this.

i received an answer to my question from stretch and sternschnuppe on benzworld. the bearing tube is incorporated into the front cover, has 6 bolts, and could be replaced from another gearbox. i have yet to determine if it can be had from the dealer, or sleeved.. etc. in the heavy truck shop we had this ( sort of )part 1 out of 3 times getting some kind of service or repair when repeat repairs were eating clutch parts regardless of the make. stretch has a pic of a 716.217 4 speed view into the bellhousing, fork and bearing are removed for access to view. whataniceaguy!

Currently attempting this conversion. Thank you so much JB3 for posting such detailed instructions!! Making all of this so much easier for me. I know this thread is dead but figured I should pay my respects.
