This is how one person dealt with Saab's crappy design plan.
I thought about doing something similar to my Stealth back in the day..not that extreme, just a little panel to allow access to the rear bank sparkplugs...just couldnt bring myself to cut into it like that...plus there was not really any space in the right area anyway, unless I removed the whole dash...like this guy.

And isn't it all one piece surrounded by a shell? That would explain the transmission/engine sump.
