Hey Guys,

I dont really have the money for this but I was wondering what models BMW made with turbo diesel engines in them?

I like the old style with the round headlights in the front, ya know the style the frat boys and ricers drive around with.

I may want to get one and keep the mercedes as a sunday car.

Get a Ford Lima 4banger for a DD already, you won't look back. Mine (190k) make a marbles-in-a-blender noise on startup, has lifter noise, misses randomly at idle (even with new plugs and wires, etc.) and it still runs strong off-idle.

It's in a pickup and I drive it like I'm being shot at. 20/25. My neighbor drove it sanely while picking up stuff and got 29 on the highway. Get a car that has one in it and you're golden.

Worst it's gotten was 17, towing an S10 on a dolly from Albany->Baltimore

The BMW 524td engine is based on the m20 or 528e gas engine. so a 5spd swap is fairly straight forward just got to find a 528e 5spd for all of the parts. But the last time I saw one for sale about 3 years ago it went for around 6k

Theres probably like three left in the US if they only made them for a year.

buddy of mine had a pair of them, an 85 and an 86, great diesel car, way faster than a 300D, and like a lead sled feel to driving it.

However, if you really want to get rare and find something fun, find a 1984 Lincoln Mk7 with the 524TD engine in it. Before Ford started courting Asian engines, they had a limited deal with BMW for a bunch of the crate 524TD motors and threw them in a bunch of lincolns.

I found one of these on a farm once, and it was an unbelievable car, a fast American air ride coupe with a German diesel engine factory in it. Damn thing would do 30mpg at 80mph.

Sold it to a pipeline worker.

The 528 is an m30 not an m20. So you need to take the gearbox of an 320, 323, 325 or 520. E28 525 was also m30.

To tell the truth, even hardcore BMW guys don't really like the M21 for a reason they even admit to there relative weakness and impossible to obtain parts. I had an E30 did a eta to M20B25 swap /w full 325i exhaust, meh it was fun.. I like Mercedes Diesel more Smile
