Gentlemen.

I'm in the process of a diesel conversion and have a 606.962 engine installed and nearly ready to run and cos of the usual electronic pump control problems have fitted an IP from a 606.910 N/A engine but with the 6mm elements from the 962 swapped in.
In my ignorance I knew nothing about the fuelling increase required by the turbo when it came on boost. The pump I have has the altitude aneroid whatsisname fitted, it's from a W124131 N/A car, as was available in the mid 90's in the UK. Triumphantly posting a pic of this on a UK forum I was told that I should have an ALDA fitted to control extra fuelling for the turbo. Fair enough. Now I discover that the insides of the IP may not be compatible with simply fitting an ALDA cos the elements may have the wrong 'hand' helix. Fitting an ALDA to this pump would actually decrease max fuel just when the opposite is required. (I'm told) Huh

Is this info correct and has anyone a solution to this problem other than by spending huge amounts on another IP? (Not really an option).

Hi,

what you were "told" is BS.
The ALDA contains capsules that allows the pin coming out of the pump (governor housing to be precise) when pressurised by boost.
Without boost pressure the capsules overcome the little spring that lifts this pin and push the pin down what decreases control rod travel (=less fueling).
Your option is to replace your governor with one off a turbo M-pump.
You can also use the stop lever to manage extra fueling with a suitable pressure actor.

So...my pump is number 606-070-03-01 from an N/A car. From a search on the EPC it looks like the IP fitted to the turbo 124 24v is 603-070-10-01 or the later -02-01. I've taken the aneroid altitude thingy off the top of my pump and have the plunger same same as the ALDA pumps.
Are you saying that I need the governor and ALDA from the 603 pump or will fitting an ALDA straight to mine work OK? Pushing down on this plunger certainly works little levers inside the gov.

Or, if I managed to get a complete 603 pump would it still need the 6mm elements changed over again? At £300 GBP a time this is getting expensive.
