Does anyone know if the later W126 subframe bolts up to an earlier model? Haven't had many chances to get out to the yards lately to check.

Ich liebe meine Autos!

1981 Mercedes-Benz 300SD | 156K Miles | 2nd Owner | EGR Disabled [Removal Pending] | ALDA Removed | Straight Pipes | GT2256V??? | Laser Interceptor | Engine swap over summer, hopefully with GT2256V attached...

1981 Mercedes-Benz 300SD | Odo Stopped at 160K (at least 50K more) | EGR Disabled | ALDA All The Way Out | Straight pipes | FM-870 Remote Start Alarm System | B100 Biodiesel | AC Fixed x2 | Trunk crushed in Sad | Retired to garage.

Excessive speeding? It ain't excessive till I redline!

I want to say that the W123 and W126 subframes are the same, and the 126 subbies are aluminium but I have no proof to back that up.

The v8 126 subframes had trailing arms made out some sort of alloy. They look pretty similar 123 to 126 and 126 gen 1 to gen 2. Of course gen 2 126 would have a bigger drive shaft though.

The w123 and 126 subframe do not interchange. The 126 is wider. The 2nd Gen and 1st Gen subframes share the same front mounting. The 1st Gen rear mounting is located in the middle, while the 2nd Gen rear mount was moved to the left a few inches. I do think you can relocate you bolt holes to make it work.

Thanks for this... I have often wondered how different the 126's were from the 123's...Ive pulled a few diffs from early 126s to get lower gears/check for LSDs and knew they were comparable, but now I know the particulars... I'd bet it could be done with enought time, thought and money(what isn't, eh?)... It'd be nice to retrofit a later 126 rear into the 123.

W123 Mods: 4 speed ** manual climate control ** '85 Kalitucky intake ** manual windows & full tint ** Euro headlights retrofit w/bixenon projectors ** 4 brake light mod ** Vogtland 50mm drop front & Lesjofors S600 drop rear springs ** 16" rims ** late w126 brake spindles, rotors & calipers ** full suspension rehab ** Bilstein HDs ** AL129X alternator & 1/0 starter and charging cables ** 300GD clutch/flywheel ** AFCO 80103N radiator & Earl's 41610 oil cooler ** custom block-off plate, remote oil filter & t-stat ** MW IP w/ tomnik's 6.5mm 'Holly' elements **

S124 Mods: 400E Rear subframe ** SL600 Brakes ** Late 300E 210mm diff ** SLK230 6 speed ** 17" CLK rims ** Vented RF Fender ** Facelift Hood, Headlights, and Lower Cladding **
