HELP - om616 won't rev past 2000 RPM
My 1976 om616 developed an intermittent problem in the lest few weeks. The engine will only accelerate up to about 2000RPM (my best guess as I don't have a working tach) and the top 1/4 of the accelerator travel causes no difference. This problem is intermittent but it doesn't seem to depend whether the engine is warm or not or if it's under load.
I fueled the engine from external can to eliminate the possibility of a clogged filter and at this point my only guess is an issue with the governor inside the IP. Is there a way to diagnose that? What other things could I check?
larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?
How did you bypass the spin on filter under the hood?
Have you checked your linkage?

Is there a butterfly inside the intake? Make sure its opening or remove it. Can't remember if they had them that early....
I'm pretty sure I've seen 616's with butterflies on the intake as late as '78 at the yards before, but I could be wrong
You have the older style om616 which means you have the vacuum operated injection pump. The intake has a butterfly valve that is connected to the throttle. When your making lots of vacuum then throttle is closed and the IP knows this, and vise versa when your at full throttle there will be no vacuum, and the IP injects a lot of fuel.
My guess is that you have a throttle linkage issue, make sure the butterfly valve is opening all the way when you push on the throttle.
I have not personally worked on the older style IP system, so this recommendation is from my understanding of how the system works. Hopefully someone who has worked on this type of system will chime in.
