I just got this injection pump from the wrecker for my 82 300d turbo. It has a weird electronic solenoid thing on the front. It sits on the engine side of the injection pump in the front. It has a three wire connection. Anyone know what this thing does? Do I have to hook it up? I think the pump is from an 83 300sd.

The later federal cars had a rack position input to the egr computer, the CA cars had it earlier, do you have a pic? It isn't necessary if you are swapping if that is even what it is... I'll try to take a pic of my '85 federal to show you

I attached a photo of the bugger. It has part # 1 417 224 000 written on a plate near the top. It is not made by bosch. It is made by a company I don't recognize. it has a shield ish shape with an "H" in the center. Maybe Hengst?

The unknown device is in the center of the pic slightly toward the top. you can see the fuel injection pump just below it. this is the front of the injection pump where it attaches to the block

yeah, that's the rack position input for the egr computer, not necessary. I don't think '82 should have one, I'm guessing your pump or engine is newer than that, check your engine #

Thanks! Thats great news, didn't want to have to hook that darned thing up. I think the pump must be newer. I should have asked the wrecker what year car it came out of. Oh well
