Looked at a w201 190D 2.2 just now that has crazy smoke coming from the exhaust, like it smoked up the whole block in about 5 minutes. Is it worth buying? Its got a 5 speed and a clean body. Anybody know how difficult it would be to rwbuold a 601? Thanks guys

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )
-1974 240D, FRESH PAINT!!!!!!

Define worth. I'd pay $400 for it, if I had time to deal with engine swapping.

It also had an occasional knocking in the front of the engine, I wonder if it all might be a problem with the vacuum pump?

Buy it cheeeeep. Smoke is oil/coolant consumption. vac pump, HG, injectors, rings, or a holed piston. How much power does it have? probably worth it if under 500

larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?

It was definitely oil smoke, and since it was constant it leads me to believe its either sucking it into the intake somewhere. Hmm, so how does oil get straight into the intake, or straight into the exhaust? The engine seemed smooth otherwise, except for the occasional knock coming from the front of the engine. Vacuum pump? Apparently all of this started right after he changed the oil

bullshit.

Agree on a price before you play with it. If you can make it not smoke you don't want him upping the price.

Pull the VP and run it-if it doesn't smoke there you go

The car is two hours away and I work 6 days a week so I cant be going back and forth trying to fix it before buying. I think I might buy it anyway, since I almost bought one a month ago for close to $3k and this is way cheaper. So if I can't fix it, I can always buy another 601, or maybe turbo 602
