My wife's 95 E300 has one broken gp and a gouged head due to the PO trying to drill it out. Recently it's been showing some worrying headgasket issues.
There's a 606 head from a 97 for sale on Peachparts. I wanna grab it, but he says one gp is stuck in the head.
Two questions.
1) Will it work on my 606 n/a?
2) It is worth the time to send it to a machine shop to remove the gp? (on the 97 head)

glow plugs really aren't too hard to remove... as long as you don't break a drill bit or tap or do anything stupid, any mercedes benz dealer usually has a broken glow plug extractor kit as an A or B tool. they are brainless to figure and you use minimal tools. I can suggest a dealer in the NE but kinda far from you. You don't have to pull the head to remove the gp. save your money and fix it yourself! can you post or send pics of your head? its really not too hard.

The PO allowed the drill to walk into the head and probably destroyed a good bit of the threads. i, and a few pwople smarter than me fear that if we somehow remove the gp that a new one wont seal or thread properly
That is why I'm looking at the 97 head for sale
Doesanyone know if I can swap the heads?
Part codes on 100 and 130kW engines are different but the head itself is the same (OK, almost). Quite many use N/A heads on turbo versions because they are sometimes easyer to find.
Invisible cracks are comman on these cylinder heads, so buying a "new" cylinder head for your engine because of a brockern glow plug is not a good idea.
I recomend you to try pulling the old glow plug out, but jes some special tools are needed.....google. Glow plug sealing is far from thread (~30mm), so if you did injure[/quote] your thread a bit it will seal anyway.

Can anyone confirm that the heads are exchangeable?
To be clear, I am taking a head from a 97 E300 Turbodiesel and putting it on a 95 E300 n/a.
This is just the head, I am planning on using the same valves, etc. No valvetrain swap. No accessories swap.
Anybody have any pictures that might aid in this?
Why not just get the stuck plug out, then just clean the threads up very carefully with a tap? Also, I've heard of kitsthat allow you to drill out the hole to a larger size and re-tap it, then screw in another set of threads, not sure if that's an option or not
