Is it a td or na 606? I've only ever seen a manual e class with a non turbo 606 (other than petrol) so there is straight swap....getting the engine to run without the autobox will be the issue!

Not sure about that.....a w210 chassis wont start with the gearbox "unplugged".

Hi
I'm not entirely sure about the 300TD, but I have just unplugged the connection directly to the gearbox, dismantled the gearshifter box and soldered over the connection that tells the electronics that it is in "park" on my w210.

I have changed the pump to an older Bosch pump (no electronics) and the starter still automaticly cuts out when the engine starts, even the rev counter still worksSmile

Only problem is of course no cruisecontrol and the ECU lamp in the instrument cluster is on.

Takes you about 15 min. to check if your car will still start etc. with the automatic disconnected.

Sorry for bringing this discussion back from the dead, but has anyone successfully performed the manual transmission swap in a W210 since the thread was created?

I have an opportunity to procure an otherwise nice W210 diesel specimen with a bad transmission, which would be a prime candidate for a manual swap.
(In all honesty, I would want to perform the conversion even if the car had a good transmission. Smile)

Great information, thank you.
I wonder if the tabs on the flywheel would still be necessary if the engine is converted to a manual injection pump.
