Will's 1987 300sdl
We just bought a new house so I have been tight on time and cash for a few months selling and working on other projects. Once we get settled in I'm going to go back to work on this car. It's my first house and l got lucky it has a large two car garage with a mechanics pit so it will be perfect for doing a transmission swap
New update I picked up an OM606 engine more specifically a 606.962 for the 300SDL I will be installing with the 6spd when time allows.

I've heard that the om606 oil filter housing interferes with the w126 cruise control. But if you swap it with the om603 you need a 20mil space to keep it from hitting the intake manifold! But the cruise control will fit
I found it on ebay in England. I looked up sprinter clutch kit for the 2.2 CDI I guess the SMF single mass flywheel is a common upgrade for them! Here in the us all of the sprinter's are autos so I had to have it shipped Over here

With shipping it was a lot more! The flywheel disc and pressure plate weighs around 48 pounds
also car-part.com look up 1998 e class engine

It also has to handle the enormous weight off a sprinter with 130hp I think it will be just fine it is a 9.5inch clutch disc That's the largest Mercedes uses to the best of my knowledge of there cars. If it has any problems I'll get and modify a stronger pressure plate to get more clamping power.
my car will make more power but it also weighs a lot less than a sprinter.
Will, have you mounted the 6-speed to your 606 yet with the clutch kit? I'm curious to fit, and any modifications to either the clutch or flywheel to get them to work.
I'm glad I found this thread. I want to get back into a diesel w126 and the SDL seems like the obvious choice for me.
Fueling up a 7.3L Power Stroke gets old when I'm not hauling anymore.
Soon I will be working on the 300sdl again! We just moved to the new house last week after several months of renovations that still aren't completely finished yet. And the transmission pit in the garage works as described! I had to swap a Getrag 265 in my 528e because of bad lay shaft bearings to get it back on the road again to replace my Subaru Legacy.

larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?

The linkage will be different for every model. But it operates the same its one lever on the back of the transmission it pushes in and pulls out and turns from Left to right it basically works in reverse of the shifter. there is a ball on the end of the linkage on the transmission side like a wobbly extension except round. It has a hole for a pin to slide through. the linkage pops over the ball then the pin goes through the hole to keep the linkage from spinning. then a round cover/spring clip slides over that pin both sides to keep the pin in place which allows the linkage to turn the rod from L-R
I finally opened space up in my 4 car garage for a 5th car so when the weather is nicer I can pull the om603 and auto transmission out of the 300sdl. The om606.962 is sitting on a pallet in my garage next to my flywheel/clutch kit and 6spd manual transmission. I Just need a couple long weekends and some nice weather to get started.
Well.... how is the project coming???
No more updates?
