I've been thinking about adding some more unnecessary gauges and switches and stuff to my w123 and the only things I can really come up with right now are an ammeter and possibly an attitude indicator (artificial horizon), so what other things could I add? I think if I could get it to just be on the verge of being ridiculous that would be cool

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )
-1974 240D, FRESH PAINT!!!!!!

I woud like to know how much juice my altenator is kicking out and how much I am using.

I would like a vacuum gauage to see how much vacuum I am pulling off the pump and if it is really holding after shut down.

Those sound like good additions, I also think a switch connected to a simple open/closed solenoid valve on the fuel supply line would be a fairly simple anti theft measure

Okay kids here we go: (stealing some from you Greazzer)

Air charge temp (x2 if you intercool)
Outside air temp
Oil temp
Boost pressure/ intake vac
Exhaust pressure
Exhaust temp
Trans Temp
Rear diff temp
Voltage
Amps through the alt
Vac pump vacuum
Fuel pressure post filter pre IP
Methanol circuit pressure

For overkill, AC high/low side gauges or at least a dummy light when the compressor kicks in.

Switches:

Aux lighting front
Aux lighting rear
Town/country horn
Boost controller
Subwoofer on/off
Methanol pump on
Methanol solenoid open/close
Exhaust cutout switch/ cable pull
Cable pull or button for shutdown(manual turbo timer/ run in the store real quick system)
Manual glow button (or summer/winter glow switch)
WVOConfusedecond aux pump
WVO lift pump
WVO valves (2x)

Edit: I like the antitheft....unhooking the linkage works great too Smile

For anti theft...

I read about ir beam switches...stick your finger in a hole to break the red and turn it on (the car) keep it secret so your girlfriend doesn't know.

Also magnetic switch mount it in a secret spot behind but adjacent to dash. When starting wave magnet in front of switch to complete the circuit. I like that idea.

What's a girlfriend? You mean one of those things that puts an end to pretty much everything manly and fun, and then spends all the money you didn't even have in the first place?

(02-06-2013, 03:07 PM)sassparilla_kid I've been thinking about adding some more unnecessary gauges and switches and stuff to my w123 and the only things I can really come up with right now are an ammeter and possibly an attitude indicator (artificial horizon), so what other things could I add? I think if I could get it to just be on the verge of being ridiculous that would be cool

you have lots of room!

My personal record is two on the column, two where the ashtray was, and 4 on the A pillar. You could get way more on the column if you went with a different steering wheel I think, a linear one where you could see further around the column.

Also, I considered the climate control, shaving that down would be a bear and a half. That sucker is a huge block. I did consider trying to move a simple VW or Nissan lever action control box over though. Lost interest in going through the work though, but they are just about the right width to fit perfectly and open up a ton of space

Anybody know of anybody redesigning the instrument cluster or anything to fit more gauges in there? I think it would be easier to look at if everything was in one place.

I've been looking on the VDO site and they have some combination gauges that I bet one could use.

When I do my next w123 I planned on completely redoing the instrument cluster, like taking a piece of .125 aluminum annodized black and laying out the speedo, tach, boost, oil pressure, pyro, ect ect. Making everything the same set of autometer or isspro gauges. Shouldn't be terribly hard just a bit expensive.

Something like this
