W124 big brake upgrade.
W124 big brake upgrade.
This is pretty well documented in other places. It is worth it, my rotors and pads were shot and in my usual thrifty way, upgraded to the 4 pots (87 300d is a single pot!). I used the existing pads and rotors, things to change next go around (along with steel braided brake hose). $58 at the pull a part with warranty (in case it didnt fit). I did have to cut the brake shield, if I had time at the yard I would have grabbed the right brake shields, but alas my wife had other plans for me.
It was a close fit. There is 2mm or so between the wheel and caliper.
which model did you pull these from?
NVM, found a decent looking set at the PnP earlier that I will return for in the morning... Car looks like a 400 or 420 w124... gonna pull the 4 pots, rotors and backing plates to be sure...
I've always thought that the R129 calipers and rotors from 1999-2003 would fit as the R129 has about the same spindle setup. Those are nice big 4 pot and aluminum.
Sure, but you'll have to run 17" wheels. 300mm is as small as you can fit under 16" wheels AFAIK.

I have the 400E setup on my 190D Turbo. I went with the 1993 front setup, the 93 has upgraded front rotor over the earlier 400E. I have 17" EVO II's but I've been told that 16's will work (unverified). On my car these will put you through the windshield! I'm sure these would be a great upgrade on the W124 as this is the stock V8 setup (400E). I know the SL600 front brakes can be used on the 500E so depending on how far you want to go there are many choices for the W124. Checkout 2phast website, he has some great info with pics on there.

Just to follow up on my install, I couldn't get these to fit inside any of my 15" wheels, although the problem didnt seem to be the diameter, more of an axial (from spindle) clearance issue...different backspace wheels would possibly work(mine rubbed/stuck on the inside face of the wheel)... at any rate, since my w123 is not currently running, I stole my 16's from the front of that one and have a set of 17's from a later model (202 comes to mind) that do work (will need 12mm bolts with 14mm ball seats)...just awaiting my full suspension rehab to fit those as they have all new rubber on 'em.
