Getting an OM605 to fit into a 190d (w201)
Getting an OM605 to fit into a 190d (w201)
In a couple of months my OM605 should be arriving, anything I need to know about making this fit in a 190d 2.5?
There is one other person I know of in Australia who has fitted one of these into a W201 & he seemed to have an unusual amount of trouble making it fit, the sump fouled the cross member so he had to cut & weld that (I'd have modded the sump instead) & the engine sat too high in the engine bay, the bonnet(hood) wouldn't shut, he ended up having custom engine mounts made which lowered the engine & moved it forward, but he put his into a 180e (Australian market w201 with 1.8 litre petrol engine).
Should there be any real trouble making this fit into a 190d 2.5?
I have 190 D with 2.2 in it. I don't see while would be any problem. The 2.5 is one cylinder longer
but it should fit just fine. After all are some production 190 with it installed.
After saying that, it depends on transmission you are using. You might have to modify/alter driveshafts length..
W201 is W201, the 180e and 190e are mostly the same. I would wonder about the first set of motor mount arms he used, since the turbo 602 fits fine with its crossover pipe. Same with the oil sump, the 602 does not have much of a notch in the pan for clearing the swaybar, although it is there.
The 605 and the 602 block is almost identical, so it will fitt perfect! Use your 602 motormounts and use your 602 flywheel...Then you can bolt your stock transmission to it Swapping this engine is a 1 hour job, easiest you can do
