Just curious if y'all have any. One of mine is people who think "because" is a valid argument for anything

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )

The large majority of Amsoil users. Just like Christopher Hitchens and Sam Harris devotees, they cannot be expected to be rational. Their way is right and you are wrong, and you just don't know any better yet.

Lucas fuel additives. NO! I do not want to waste my money. And NO! I do not want to put that stuff in my tank.

Prius owners.... nuff said.

People who don't believe diesel cars exist.

People who give you a phone call, make you drive somewhere, send you an email AND WILL NEVER BE BOTHERED TO SHOW UP/ANSWER A PHONE CALL/ANSWER AN EMAIL in turn.

AutoZoo/AdvanceAuto employees that don't know that they don't know. I spend considerable time "training" some people who work there (teaching them how the battery tester they use works, teaching them about oil ratings, etc) and when I'm there and no "trained" employees on are site... ugh.... all new kinds of stupid are observed. I swear, if I hear "but... can I just get the year and make of your vehicle?" one more time...grrrrrr

Stop going to Autozoo. I'm on a first name basis with the local independent parts guy(Country Auto Parts in Timonium, MD), he gets me anything. Plus, he has like 50 catalogs with priceless info. For example, a catalog of temp senders & switches, complete with a photo, on/off range, ohms resistance, thread pitch, length, connector type, and the automakers who typically use them.

Prius.....yeah....I'm not *against* them if you want it for whatever reason, except 'because it's the right thing'. If you're really conscious you would get an 80s jetta and 45mpg.

When I tell the guy at Lowes I need a different exhaust flange for our new water heater because it is two inches taller than the old one and his response is just cut two inches off the bottom of the water heater. Yes that actually happened. I yelled at him about how stupid he was using every explative I could think of and then threw everything I was holding on the ground and left the store. The people waiting to get help from him all walked away

The Prius is just like any other car they are an Ok car they are reliable and get ok mileage. What peeves me is when people think they are saving the environment by driving them. When in reality it makes more pollution to build one than it will make in it entire usable life time. Which makes them worse for the environment than a Land Rover Discovery.

The greatest part about the prius and other gas saving cars is that now states want you to pay a higher licence plate/sticker tax to offset the taxes they aren't getting at the pump.
Also, the gubernment is wanting to start taxing people who use geothermal technology to heat/cool their homes.
I just thought of another pet peeve. Taxation, greed, politics.

I hate the phrase "with all due respect". It's extremely disrespectful in that you're claiming to know precisely how much respect is due to the person you're speaking to. You rarely know someone that well. Just say "with respect" or "respectfully".

The word "egotistical". The irony of the word is that it's got superfluous syllables that give the speaker, who is inevitably blabbing on about someone *else's* ego, a sense of exaggerated importance or intelligence. In what situation could you not substitute "egotistical" for "egotistic"? None. How come nobody ever uses the word "egotist"? You could just say, "She's an egotist.".

Saying "I could care less" when you mean "I couldn't care less".

(04-07-2013, 09:26 AM)raysorenson I hate the phrase "with all due respect".

It irritates me that there are two "t"s in egotist. The first "t" has no use, nor does it belong there.

But somehow the word "egoist" got abused and we have "egotist" in our dictionary.

I agree and did some checking into egotist vs egoist a while back. Short answer is that an egotist is a stupid person that reveals their bloated sense of self esteem and an egoist is a self-centered person whose high self regard cannot be detected through normal social interaction. In modern western society, we're all pretty much egoists by this definition, especially those who frequent car forums :p

Never heard it that way before.

I approached it from an etymological standpoint. Ego (self/I am) + ist (to indicate follower of doctrine or culture). The "t" just doesn't serve any meaningful purpose. It's almost as if someone started pronouncing it with a "t" because it was easier to say and it stuck.

But then dogmatist also has the problem and it existed long before egotist.... so who knows?

This pet peeve has always bothered me, but recently boiled my blood again.

Ever have somebody tell you they need something right away? You give them the normal period it would take to perform the task/build the part/r&r/whatever and tell them rushing it would be possible but only if they REALLY needed it.

And then they don't respond/pick up the item/want to pay for the item right away.....

Grrrrrrr..... Angry

I've had this twice now in two weeks. Took two hours I had overworked one week off early to do something for some guy and he's still not contacted me. But he sure needed it "next day" when he talked to me.

Then someone said they needed something ASAP. I said I'd call them for an address in the morning if I ended up getting it done that night. Next morning, they don't pickup. That afternoon? Nope, still no answer. 5 days later? Nope, won't return the calls, no email, nothing. A full week later he asks me if I can send him a PP invoice.....ugh.

Obviously I consider it necessary to jerk another member's chain on occasion but I'm mature enough to make it a calculated move. It's the flame wars with people who must have the last word making page-long responses with worthless content that can make a forum hard to read. It drives me nuts when I'm searching the web for info and I come across a promising thread where I end up having to skim over 12 pages of ego(tistical :p) bullshit to find a nugget.

Here's one: Quoting huge posts with a million pictures and not bothering to edit the pics out of the quote. The icing on the cake is when it's nothing but a "me too" type comment.
