OM602 Turbo choices.....
OM602 Turbo choices.....
Hello all. Long time M-B owner and tech, shop owner. Finally got another W124 1991 300D. Pump is going to Dieselmekin, intercooler and pipeing im building currently. So were down to the turbo choices here. I know everyone love the HX35, however im in fear of terrible spool time ect. Leaning a bit towards a HY35 as i think it may spool a bit quicker ( 100miles daily commute needs to still be ok for dail driving) But if im going through the trouble of milling my exhaust manifold for the T3 flange why not a T3/T4 base with a large wastegate for quick spool and good high RPM boost control. Or even the GT28 and keep the T25 flange? According to the math i need about 625CFM of flow. Again any insight, opinions...
Ben Duncan
This was my idea, T25/t4 hybrid, big external waste gate and a nice compressor section..
Turbine section thrid one down is a T25 flange T3 hot side

250-275 tops... Transmission big limiter here.

With the smaller exhaust flange the exhaust flow will be faster helping in low end spool up. but it will affect the exhaust flow at higher rpm if the turbo is a big one

I think EDH is right. I wanted to put a he221 on my car, but can't find one for a decent price!

They are found on QSB and ISQ(?) cummins engines IIRC
Basically newer commonrail cummins. like the 4.5L and so on

Looks like i may just settle for a H1C and a 944 waste gate set up. I think ill be going the route of the 717.432 in the next few months. Pump coming out this weekend then off to Dieselmeken.. Fun fun!!
Gotta get a M96 engine back together first though...
I wouldn't really recommend a H1C. Old and rather small compressor design. Some h1c's are REALLY small (44mm IIRC) and the bigger ones come with a giant exhaust housing. 18-21cm
But! If you have one laying around, I say go for it
