Hey,

Going to be working on the again tomorrow.

I had to put in an extra two weeks at work but now im a free man and I am my own boss. Business is good and steady.

I think tomorrow I will either

1 - Remove the old veggie kit since I dont need it anymore

or

2 - try to get the car started by fixing the vacuum pump

most likely it will be the first because I think at this point I need to rebuild the pump.

Anyone have any leads on where I can get a complete rebuild kit for my pump? I have seen a few but I am not sure which one.

I have be real careful with my money now, I have the time and income is steady but I have gone one to two weeks without any calls which can be a real bummer on funds.

Oh and Im going to fix my 3 piece euro bumper, Any one have the measurement of the angle the middle piece? I am going to see if my pop's friend who owns a metal shop can rebend it for me instead of buying another piece.

Ordered the parts for the vacuum pump.

ill update as I go along.

EDIT

so I spent an hour after I got home from school and removed the vacuum pump.

removed the A/C thing and had to cut the power steering belt cause I couldn't figure out how to loosen it.

now with that stuff out of the way, I was thinking about putting a bottle jack up against the crank case and pushing out the front end.

might replace the oil cooler too.

I have a lot of work :/

okay, so I spent about an hour today removing the old driver side caliper that failed on me when I was driving one time. kept leaking break fluid.

replaced the passenger side one from bendix to ATE so i did the same with the driver side

For the front do not jack against the engine. If you want to try straightening it, chain it to a tree and push it back by hand until it's going like 10mph. You don't want to shock load the drivetrain make sure you're in neutral when the chain tightens up.

thats probably the best way to do it. not sure where I would get another one to replace it with, and I dont think I have the tools to do it either.

So far work im doing work in small batches of one to two hours. I cant spend any more time because I have anger issues and I need to pull myself away before I do something rash like break tools, as I have done in the past.

I am not very good when it comes to logical stuff but my expertise is that kind of stuff. Different kind of skills, but I am learning the more theoretical stuff. Once it stops raping your mind, its kind of fun!

I got some parts in the mail yesterday

all the parts i need to rebuild the pump

did a bit of cleaning since the check valves were all soaked in oil

here you see the gasket in the wrong place until i realized they go on the bottom. so I fixed that but never took another picture

everything was going pretty well until i discovered this....

You would kinda be the guinea pig. The brake booster is the largest consumer of vacuum (assuming your door locks don't leak) so you should in theory be good just hooking it up. If the pump isn't big enough, or if you were braking a lot, you would need a reservoir or a bigger pump. Probably not the answer you're looking for but that's it. You can also get a bigger MC and go manual brakes.

so, after being realy lazy for the past, what was it....two months? three?

I finally put in the order for the correct brake hardware. The ones i got off amazon were for some BMW.

as you can see the top two pins were for the beamer, nothing was even close. so I ordered the correct ones off rockAuto.

all installed with new sensors and what not.

was going to remove the rear break calipers today but it was HOT and i couldn't lift the car high enough with the jack I have to use my stands for safety.

my future plans for the next week or so, is to replace the rear break calipers. they are probably original and will fail on me in the near future

remove the CV axles and see if they can be rebuilt or if I should just replace them.

and remove any and everything to do with the waste veggie oil system. Ill be selling the tank and what not for it.

Your front brakes look good. Bored with the Jetta yet?

For the calipers, if you've got the time pull them off and disassemble/clean. If the bores are smooth just get new seals. Unless the thing is corroded internally it's only the seals that wear out.

If you can replace an oring, you can rebuild chalipres.

Your front brakes look good. Bored with the Jetta yet?

For the calipers, if you've got the time pull them off and disassemble/clean. If the bores are smooth just get new seals. Unless the thing is corroded internally it's only the seals that wear out.

If you can replace an oring, you can rebuild chalipres.

Spent some time on the car today, tried to see if I could drop the differential but I just couldn't see how that would go about. my lack of mechanical experience left me stranded with 0% progress today.

Spent some time on the car today, tried to see if I could drop the differential but I just couldn't see how that would go about. my lack of mechanical experience left me stranded with 0% progress today.

time to go get a manual.

You can do it!!! I think it is a nice walk through on peachparts. you'll need too take off the rear wheels, have the car on some stands, take off the calipers, unhook the cv axles from their outer connection, like hub or whatever.
then it is on to the 6 flex disc nuts/bolt, and I think 4 bolts holding up the diff. Also, maybe helps to lower the 2 big subframe bolts but maybe unnecessary.
I would say count on 3-6hrs depending or maybe get stuck half way Wink

thanks for the input. to answer your question, no Im just trying to change the cv axles but i figured I would drop what I can and do some restoration.

probably clean the gunk off the differential and repaint it, sand blast some rust off the in areas and paint. things like that.

already got it up on stands so im about .0435% way there.

I know, but I have the time and im also clearing out the garage so I have space for shit like this now Big Grin

might as well get as much as I can while im working on it. I have a few rubber bits to change that i have sitting around brand new.

Just remembered I found a service manual copy I had on my server. found the appropriate article and now I can at least finish replacing the cv axles.

I was thinking and Im not going to even bother cleaning up and repainting the differential. too much work.

If you want it to stay clean replace the axle seals also. They are pretty easy while the CV joints are out
