Oh God my eyes!!! These are for track days right? :-)
Not sure if stealthy stock is your thing, but I just got 4 genuine Merc reman R129 16x8 wheels for 510 shipped. They look new and the paint is the right color. PT# ALY65147U10
larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?
Sell the centers. That's just one more part to fall off when you hit a bump

Lol
That's pretty impressive, is that a full size pallet you fit through the side door of that van? Wow
Tell the wife that family vehicles get used for family purposes, and what better purpose than bringing transplants for other members of the family, or was she referring to kids?
Love the progress of this project
With the original trap oxidizers still! how many miles? which cylinder head
still waiting for some super pump videos
Fedex dropped off the pressure plate. I picked up a flywheel, disk and pressure plate for the cost of a clutch kit.
@JB3, the Eurovan is the Transporter everywhere else. Very much designed to be a van first. The project is long and slow going, to many other competing priorities.
@ray there are no fins! instead it is a bunch of offset pilars, probably to reduce weight. Would never had noticed had you not said anything.
@will not sure. good q. with football on I assumed #14. interestingly enough it has mercedes filters on it, indicating it was serviced at the dealership very odd that.
8hrs of work for me. Mostly on the stupid flex disk bolts. Anyone have some brilliance for those? I end up using a 17mm open end and a 15mm box end.
(04-23-2013, 07:50 PM)TheDon I found it rather easy to remove the flex discs bolts from my om606 flywheel while under the car. Zipped them off with my electric impact.

Took everything off the exhaust side and spent the day cleaning her up. Need to stop by the toy store and pick up a new pilot bearing and a variety of gaskets etc. Should have the engine back in on saturday and running by Sunday.
Assuming the engine is good I will be looking into AWIC. I am wondering about the radiator though. The kits online all have massive radiators. How big does one really have to be I wonder. Can I get away with a oil cooler under the bumper on the pass side?
Water has a high specific heat and the fins of the radiators hold a relatively large amount of thermal energy for the surface area they provide when compared to an air/air IC. Because of this, the radiators tend to work more like a heat sink than an air/air IC. A heat sink works best when it's big.
Were I to install an A/W IC, I'd give a modified P-flow condenser a shot. They're thin, you can get one that fills out almost all the space in front of the condenser, you could still have room for electric cooling fans in front and the fins hold a small amount of water relative to the surface area.
The only caveat I can think of is that the end tanks of the P-flow condensers have baffles to direct the refrigerant through the condenser like this
This would cause a restriction. Removing the baffles would slow the water down and increase flow capability. This would take some brazing skills.
SCCA has a rule against a/w IC's. Obviously O.E. equipped cars get a pass. If your local tech inspector wants to give you shit about it, he can.

Make sure you install an electric fan on it, heat soak is a no-no

I think a motorcycle radiator would work nicely it is small and thick and can flow a lot of water at slow speeds and they usually come with an electric fan.

They're cheap too-most I've ever paid is $30 for one with the fan

Engine is back in car. Really have to shoe horn it in there, I literally used a shovel as a shoe horn over the balancer. Next time balancer comes off.
Turned over, waiting for the battery charge.
Realized that I FORGOT ABOUT THAT STUPID FUCKING LAST EXHAUST STUD THAT ALWAYS BREAKS OFF.!@#$Q#$TQ#$T@%^@#&*&*(O&
I dunno what it is about that stud but they are always broken off... And I saw it and FORGOT ABOUT IT... GRRR.
HUZZAH. Gave up trying to start without GP. Put old harness on new engine.. NO glow still. Now since I hooked up the started and the alternator the battery light would be on with the keys out of ignition. Put 2+2 and removed from alternator and ALL IS WORKING. Time to bolt up everything YAY.
Now to figure out how to do the IC.
Drove the car to work today. Clutch hydraulic failed on me once I will have to make sure there are not leaks. Other than that the car runs great. Still no good solution for intercooling with AC...

12 gague tubing, not great but better than the polished crap.
Intercooler is 27x8x4 w 3" in and out. It was the best fit I could find that I hope to be able to fit under the bumper support without scraping the ground. I really didnt want to cut the bumper support.

I like the big radius on those pipes.

BBS LM's. HRE 540's are similar but without the tight radius around the hub. Both are forged, bling and suprisingly heavy.
Mounted the strut bar. The cabrio guys over at benzworld can't stop talking about the improvement.
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w124-e-c...t-bar.html
Loving the strut bar, makes the front end feel more boxy and some engine drone is gone. Worth the $120 I paid for it.
Test fitted the intercooler and piping today. Had to remove the plastic lower sidewalls for now. I will fit them and put them back on once I am done. Managed to clear above the sway bars by repositioning the oil cooler at more of an angle. I will cut the bracket and finish it up when I do the install. Pictures will come with install which I don't expect to happen for a few more weeks. Gotta get some kiddo time in on the weekends.
(06-12-2013, 01:48 PM)garage Very nice winmutt!
I just picked up a 87 300D and im stoked on it. This car is definetly inspiration!
What kind of exhaust are you running?

I don't plan on getting a bigger pump for a few years, or until this one breaks.
I was just curious how loud this engine is with a straight pipe? Because my 87 has like 3 or 4 mufflers on it...seems like overkill to me.
I assume the turbo muffles the exhaust somewhat? How much louder would this car be than a om617 with a straight pipe?
