Hello all, on the SUPERTURBODIESEL forum! My name is wayne, and i am new to this board, but not diesels. I am a member of a few different forums (benz and ford) and i have realized that the forums with some of the best repair and maintenance help dont like it when you start talking about "performance" and "modification".

I have been lurking here for a while, and i must say, you boys seem to be on the right track to power. Thank all of you for the great input the collective has produced and stored here.

I, first am on the path to repair and recovery, as you can see in my sig i own a few om617 powered cars, one is planned for a fox body transplant, and hopefully a corvette 6spd. the other two are dailys. while i would love to smoke the "TUNERS" of this town with a 30+ year old 4000lb diesel tomorrow,but i under stand that first it needs to run right (first taking care of the lack of maintenance). i am hoping that with this boards that help by the SCHEID DIESEL TRUCK SHOW this year i can have at least one that is pushing close to 165-175HPish. and i hoping to do this with stock ( but modified) injection pump, new nozzles on injectors, (still looking into buying a pressure tester) stock turbo (boost turned up) intercooler, and water/meth. does this sound reasonable? and the proper gauges to watch engine temps, boost and maybe tranny and oil temps. oh and egr, arv, and alda delete. thanks for all the great info guys keep up the solid work.

Now some one start buying up MW pumps and send about 150-200 of them off to a machine shop to be done up with some 7.5 mm plungers already so there can be a bulk discount and they can be sold for less then a couple grand each! lol

Why an OM617 for the beercan? Tongue An OM602 would easily hit the 200hp mark, fit as well or better in the engine bay than an OM617, be lighter, run quieter and be more fuel efficient.

Still, if you're going through the trouble of a 6 speed corvette trans (rear axle C5?), it seems like a more rev-happy OM60x would work better with all those gears. Either way, go for it!

yes yes 200 haha i edited it, i shot my mouth off before i did my research. what i should have said was max out put on stock pump. there is that better. i smoke when i come home and some times it bleeds into my typing and thinking...

i was really just trying to thank every one for the collection of info here and all the trial and error i (hopefully) wont have to go thru. thanks guys!

You're looking at 140 "fairly easily" tweaking the pump, maybe more. I'd be interested to see what a light cut (5 thou?)on some DVs would do-the threads I've read have all taken a huge amount off.

that would be sweet! im not even sure where the local shops send their IDI IPs off to be done. no one around here seems to want to touch an IDI anything. CUMMINS is big around here. I saw an ad on craigslist for a shop in IL somewhere, that did tractors and IDIs, i wish i remembered where or the number. i would call and ask how much it was to have one thrown on the bench.

An IP is an IP though. Shouldn't matter whether its direct or indirect, any experienced pump shop should be able to do it no problem.
But finding a good pump shop in the states seems to get harder and harder everyday.

I'm no expert, but in my eyes the trouble is that with our pumps there are 5 elements instead of just 1. So you need to balance all 5, unlike a rotary pump where you just set the 1 element and forget it.

I'm no expert, but in my eyes the trouble is that with our pumps there are 5 elements instead of just 1. So you need to balance all 5, unlike a rotary pump where you just set the 1 element and forget it.

i dont know anything about balancing pumps, and the places around here except Schied (i think, maybe even Schied) send their pumps off to be rebuilt and balanced.
And when i say they dont want to mess with IDIs, i mean they dont like to work on them. and if and when they do, its not cheap. im glad that i work on all my own cars/truck.
my understanding of a DB2 injection pump in the Ford IDIs (6.9, 7.3) and Chevy IDIs (6.2, 6.5) (different housing and one spins a different direction, but very similar internals) is that they have 2 plungers, and their both rotary pumps. Thats why the fabled DB4 (marine 6.2 Chevy IP) is so sought after. There is a guy on the Ford forums that has got his hands on some and is putting the internals in a ford housing with promising results. (dyno vids) I was thinking about asking for his input on our dilemma with the MW pumps.

man that sounds like a whole lot more work then just building a 5 cyl pump that will handle what you want...

what happened to simpler is better???
