om606s Volumetric Efficiency
om606s Volumetric Efficiency
Do somebody here have some input regarding Volumetric Efficiency in the om606 over 1000-6000 standard engine? I guess it is quite easy to measure in a standard engine since the present of the air flow meter, but mine is since long put out and strip of that.
I am doing some simulation in matchbot on different turbo setup and turbos to come to a set up that I would like and it is starts to look interesting but the Volumetric Efficiency I am little unsure of how it look.
Have you seen this document?

It's got VE info an N.A. 606. Different intake, different intake cam, but maybe you can get in the ballpark with this info.

Hello
thanks for sharing information, thought it would be interesting to compare this engine to the om606.962.
I guess there would be some measuring without turbo first from my part since this affect my calculation quite a lot, I am specially interested what happens to Volumetric Efficiency between 5000-7500rpm
I do wonder if a similar document exist for the om606.962

(05-13-2013, 06:24 PM)mantahead some good reading and info there.
i think cams and valve springs will make a big difference from 5000 to 7500rpm.

Stock valvesprings are terrible, around 15-18kg of springrate= slow revving tractor engine^^
how much do you dare to rev your engine?

Max rpm is aroundt 6200rpm because of weak little end of those crappy swedish rods
But my valvetrain can handle up to around 8000rpm with the springs i have;D
Thanks for the info
I will settle my self with 7500 for my project
And I do not use Swedish rods

(05-16-2013, 03:46 PM)mantahead what other rods are available? whats the limit on standard?Eagle forged rods from America apparently, nothing on their site is listed for Merc OM60x engines but apparently something they make is suitable.

If one start to observe the figure 7 diagram what is the scale of the x axel?

Good question on the rods there! And what options are there on cams and valves/springs?

That chart is pathetic. I'm almost sorry I linked to it:-(
To answer your question, most likely VE. How VE can be so low below 2000 rpms is a mystery. Maybe the throttle valve is closed at low rpms. You probably also noticed that "100" is the 9th rather than the 10th graduation on the X axis. WTF?
Yes I saw the figure 7 have a lot of strange things
what is WTF? something that is not so good to write in full here?
it would be very interesting to ask the authors some questions about that paper.
I have this system on my E320 gasoline but the pipes is in plastic so I guess it would go kaboom when a play the BMW 535D R2S turbo. But if I can find a metall one it would be interesting to explore for develop on om606.962, but it need to take 3 bars of boost any way, and if not it will be a much bigger kaboom
