Hello all,

After talking to some guys, and one of them have a OM606 with +550hp for drag, I was wondering if this engines, after modded (turbo and IP) to reach 300-400hp, are good to use in daily driving and if they will smoke a lot from low rpm or in any condition?

The guy also told me that this engines after modded they can't stand driving at high speeds (220-240) for more than 2-5 minutes before they broke, is this true!?
I think this might be something to do with gear ratio and high rpm right?

What are the bennefits for daily driving, or for the 300-400hp target, if I change the cams for the OM603 NA ?

Thanks

suppose you are talking about 220-240km/h and not mph?
unless they have something built wrong i see no reason that they couldnt stand that kind of speeds. althou, if they have a different ratio, that gives them 6500rpm at that speed. he might be perfectly right.

they are drivable with 300-400bhp without a doubt, depending on turbo and setup of alda you can will have different amount of blacksmoke, people will probably react, but not "black cloud of mega cancer, kitty death" typ of smoke.

Thank you for your reply,

LOL for the "Kitty death" black smoke Smile

I noticed that you have also a W115, and I'm asking this questions about the OM606 because I'm planing to install one on the W115 and I plan to drive it around town.
I know I have to do a lot of homework and adaptations to fit the OM606 on the W115, but now is the time since I'm starting the paint work, and this week I will try to fit a 722.6 with a broken borrowed OM606 on the W115.

Any thoughts by the way? Smile

Thanks

the om606 will be a tight fit in a w115 chassi, welding in engine bay and the tunnel around the gearbox is probably needed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAOUoowU-vk
there is a video of a om603 in a w114 chassi, i have never seen anyone doing an om606 in a w115 Smile

other thoughts than alot of welding...
battery in the trunk, depending on current engine, new springs.
and depending on what you want to use it for, different rear end.

even a 3.46 wich is the lowest geared rearend for a w115 is way to high in my opinion for a om606, way to high.

and when you are welding and changing the cardan, get one from a v8 w126, r107 or w116, bigger flexdisc, and more options regarding rearends.

im driving my om616 with 3.07 rearend, and are sometimes looking for the 5th gear.
the turbo om617 in w115 chassi has a 2.65 rearend, and that one am i to looking for the fifth gear when exceeding like 45-50mph.

go for atleast something around 3.07 unless you are planning to drift or something like that. makes the car usable and less rpm at high speeds. since you are talking about reliability and usability.

if you use the cardan you have and you want a rearend with a different ratio than the w123 or w115 offers, you will have to change the yoke/whatever you call it that bolts to the flexdisc and cardan. and for that you have to pull the differential apart and get someone that knows them to change it, (if you dont want it to whine or kill the bearings)

I know that video for some time, since we already talked about it in other thread Wink

My w115 is a 240d 3.0 with the OM617, but when I install the OM606 I know that maybe I will need other rear axel.
I want to install air ride also, but first the engine and auto gear box, and then I will upgrade rear axel etc.. as I increase power or parts broke! Big Grin

If you are going for an auto i would definitely go for a higher geared finaldrive.
Id aim at a 2.24 or atleast a 2.47.

I'm going to get a 2.47 on a fivespeed om602turbo w123coupe that hopefully works great.

The om602turboed w201 auto has a 2.65 rearend as standard with125hp.

Fivespeed or fourspeed.auto?
