I have a customer that wants to upgrade a 80 300SD to a 606 engine. He wants 250-275 HP. What upgrades are needed to get this HP, can it be done with a bigger turbo and injectors? Or will the injection pump need bigger plungers also. I appreciate any input.

As above, bigger turbo and either change the elements and get a remap or change to a mechanical pump with bigger elements. Injectors wont need changing.

What size elements would work, the stock in the mechanical pump are 5.5mm. Are the elements available in the states so they can be installed here. Also what turbo would be adaptable, is the stock exhaust manifold large enough or would a header need to be fabricated? Thanks for all the input.

I think a HY35 would be a good turbo for that power. Early spool also.
I would guess the orginal manifold with new flange will hold to that power, but i dont know that for sureSmile

Hey zeeman I have a upgraded pump and a hx35 it is real close to 275 at the rear wheels. I can show it to you some time and if my trans holds up I will give you a ride. The next thing you will need after the engine build will be a better transmission.

I am on the other Northern end of the state in Bayview, who did your pump modification? Did you adapt the turbo to the stock exhaust manifold? I am going to use a GM 4l80E transmission, www.transmissionadapters.com just stated making a GM trans adapter for the 606. I appreciate the info.

Dieselmeken did my pump and it is real nice he is a great guy to work with. I made a header for the turbo it is a little crude didn't have the tools I have now but it works. Did you get a price for the adapter I would use the 4l80 if it fits under my car 95 e300.

Was it a hassel sending the pump to him, what was the cost and the turn around time. I have seen some of his blogs. seems like a great guy to deal with, impressive shop. The adapter is $795.00 which includes the gear drive starter and GM flex plate. The 4l80E is about 2 inches wider then the Merc. trans. Looks like I might have to open the tunnel a little towards the rear of the pan.

I shipped the pump for 98 to him he got it in 10 days. He moved shops and still had the pump rebuilt and had it to me in just a day over a month. He is all moved into his shop turn around would be at least a week less. It was almost as easy as using a local guy I used skype to call him and he said to call him with and questions or if I need help. That is quite a bit of money for the adapter I could get a 722.6 or nag1 and stand alone controller for just a couple hundred more then that. I was going to use the android controller from olefejer. What controller do you have for the 4l80? Also don't really want to modify the floor to fit.

The 4l80E has an overdrive and a lock up converter as well as a better gearing for the diesel. This would improve fuel economy and drivability. I will use a TCI or PCS controller. When I talked to PCS they said I would need the 722.6 shifter, speed sensor and throttle position switch to make it work. You probably have the later trans in your car already compared to the earlier trans in the 80 SD.

I am still not committed to the 4l80E if the 722.6 would work and hold up to the HP. Is the 722.6 a 4 or 5spd. trans. How well does the android controller work?
