just got done building a turbo gas engine(3liter 16psi,hx35,398rwhp,445ftlbs), but it doesnt suffice when you miss that diesel knock and whistle all the time.

i want to build the om606 for 400hp or near it. ive been out of the diesel scene for quite some time, didnt know if there has been new discovers on more US parts readliy avalabile? and how can i go about getting 300-400hp from these motors? what kind of engine work?

engine will be fine, you will need exhaust manifold, turbo and modified injector pump.

I love that it's this simple! It's like owning a 2JZ...so you want 600whp? well all you need is this this and this and its done..
I remember when everyone at MB was saying how the 606 is junk and will never hold up compared tot the 603..

Hmm 2jz is actually what I just built. Simple project really. So just slap a hx35 on and intercooler then where do I send the pump? Stock injectors? How about a manual transmission? I want to put this in my 86 300td

yea, standard injectors are fine, i use Dieselmeken on here for pumps.
you will need to do something about clutch.

I don't plan on making it complicated right from the start. Just interested in what it takes and where can parts be found. I'm not sure of the engines capabilities in stock form. I'm looking for more build threads on them to see what others do and how it turns out.

The general rule of thumb is a little more than 100hp/cylinder for the turbocharged om605/om606. Say 550hp for a om605 and close to 700hp in a om606. So 600whp will be doable in a om606.

This is stock engine were talking about. Higher outputs will require other camshafts. Some rods and pistons would be a good investment also.

Stock valve springs can cope with 6k rpm. To rev 7k rpm you'll need tougher springs. We are currently building a om605 for 700hp, that's a 242cc Dieselmeken pump with a 7250rpm rev limiter. We also build a more moderate om604 with a 8mm Dieselmeken 180cc pump that we hope can deliver close to 400hp.

stock...
apperantly he missed a gear,
gave it WOT and apperantly the IP didnt stop untill way to late...

Dont know if its a pump fault or actualy how it do work, but it makes one kinda worried, better make shure the gear will stick before giving the engine WOT or WOT in first gear.

will try to stick to the 5500rpm and rarely 6k.
but makes you wonder weather or not the revlimiter works properly on these modded pump (if he estimated that 8k correctly) but way over his "regular" 6k atleast.

well its also possible to put a electronic over speed unit on the engine and set it so it shut down at 6100 rpm I use them all the time on gensets for offshore they are not so expensive compared with the repair costs.
you just need a magnetic pick up and the wire for the stop solenoid and its possible to make it stop if you have low oil pressure also.

try and look here www.ecu-engine-controls.com they have all you can think off

if it isn't fast enough that the engine stops the same way as if you turn the key you can also build in an air shut down valve but they are expensive to buy, so you have to fabricate your self to keep the price down
