So first off I am new and I am hoping I can get some info/answers about my SDL.

So first question. I am planning down the road to do a 606 swap on my SDL but I would like to know what I am getting into first and what is needed to do the swap. So my question is has anyone done a OM606 swap on a 300SDL? An if so what is needed other than the OM606 engine? Does it mount in with using the 603 motor mounts? Do I use the 603 oil pan and oil pump? I know its best to use the 603 IP which I would do. What nozzles are recommended? Are there any electronics you have to wire? or harnesses that need to be adapted?

Second question. How difficult is it to swap out the Garrett T3 to a Holset on my 603 engine? Which Holset turbo is a good match to the 603?

Third question. Deleting the alda, rack limiter, & egr. What's your opinion? I would like to get some more power from my 603 while I find the right 606 for my swap. I'd like a second opinion before messing with this stuff though. I like rolling coal as much as anyone else but I don't want to waste fuel for no performance increase.

And last question. What can be done to the 603's IP to increase fuel? I read about changing nozzles? I believe I have the M style IP pump.

Any info or suggestions is much appreciated. And thank you in advance.

I'm working on the same right now. Ive been told by others who have done this swap the om606 oil pan should be fine in the w126 chassis. It basically the same block between the om603 and om606 so motor mounts will switch over just fine. Use the om603 injection pump! If you use the om603 oil filter housing you will need a 20mm spacer to the block to clear the om606 turbo intake manifold. But then the stock 603 oil cooler and hoses will work and the w126 300sdl throttle linkage and cruise control will work also. You will need some sort of intercooler set up for the 606

I may look in to an OM606 N/A intake manifold the boost pipe goes over the valve cover and the oil filter housing may fit??? Then I could run a air/water intercooler on the passenger side close to the turbo.

I see your going with a 6 speed manual trans. What trans are you using?

I got the 6spd out of a 2002 c230 kompressor. I don't know if it will hold up to the power and weight yet but it will bolt on the om603/om606 like stock. The hard part was finding a w126 manual pedal set. I had one shipped over from a European salvage yard. Only available on European W126 280s and 280se. But others have made them out of w123 sets before. That requires some fabrication to the pedal lengths

Why do people want to swap the filter housings over? Won't the plastic capped 606 turbo one fit?

You can use the stock om606 oil filter housing but it interferes with the w126 300SDL throttle linkage and cruise control. and you have to make custom oil cooler hoses if you use the om606 oil filter housing.

Cheers for that - I have already made the throttle linkage for my w124 by modifying then 606 turbo intake manifold, so that's ok.
The oil cooler business is something I have been thinking about as I cannot see any suitable take offs. Is there an easy way to add one to the 606 turbo engine?
Cheers,
Max

The 606.962 turbo engine has oil cooler pipe take-offs as standard. At least mine has: from a w210

Sorry to have hijack'd this thread SWL.
Druk - mine too is from a W210, maybe i need some new glasses! Re picture - takeoff looks thermostatically controlled too!

does anyone have a source or a CAD file for the 20mm oil filter housing spacer? oil changes are a bit difficult without it!

I may look in to an OM606 N/A intake manifold the boost pipe goes over the valve cover and the oil filter housing may fit??? Then I could run a air/water intercooler on the passenger side close to the turbo.
