It is located next to the thermostat housing and is bolted in the head with three bolts as you can see in the pic the center one is larger than the other two. What exactly is this part and what does it do?

Most importantly does its gasket seal coolant or engine oil?

The chain tensioner. Oil I would guess, I have never had to change it.

when i removed my tensioner, the spring was pretty worn down,not only was it shorter and not as stiff as a new one, it had grind marks from rubbing on the inside of the tensioner, i replaced both unfortunately, could have done with just the spring it was only a few bucks

Yup, get a new spring and gasket-it's cheap insurance and is easy

larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?
