6 speed transmission options for OM606
6 speed transmission options for OM606
All - Hansebanger77 has stuck a MB six speed transmission in his OM606 beast - From what I have gathered he has not had any issues (touch wood). I plan to do the same.
I believe that all these 6 speed transmissions are built for dual mass flywheels with the centre bearing in the flywheel - so I plan to have a custom flywheel made up to suit a Sachs Racing SRE 765 (BMW M5) pressure plate. Any comments?
The question I have is what is the best Six speed box to use (E220CDi etc)? – highest torque rating so that I know what to purchase!
Also does anyone have any ratio info on these?
Cheers,
Max
Don't know witch are the strongest ones, but i'm positive that the 220cdi box(716.654) has the bigger outputflange and therefore maybe stronger. I think the 230 kompressor also has the bigger outputflange.
Ok, we'll that's a start!
Thanks!
Max
I use also 716.654 but I think all 716.6xx are good option. There are 2 different linkages to shift. I have only 1 linkage for all gears. The other ones hafe some Bowden cable too. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks,

Im not 100% sure but I think all the 716.6xx gearboxes have the following ratios -
1st gear - 5.014
2nd gear - 2.831
3rd gear - 1.789
4th gear - 1.256
5th gear - 1.000
6th gear - 0.828
Reverse - 4.569

I have the one with two linkages. Both linkages needs shortening to mount in the w124 shifter hole, and the hole must be cut bigger. I shortened 7cm to fit the middle of the orginal hole in the w124 tunnel. 10x10cm are perfect hole to make the foamrubber on the shifter to fill the hole. The w203 220 cdi front kardanshaft fits right on the splines on the orginal w124 rear kardanshaft, but needed to be lenghtened 5cm.
I strongly recomend that you buy a box with shifter and rubber flex joints for the kardan, as these are expensive units by them selfes. I didnt, and i wont do that again for sure...!

Thats right. But if the cable is not attached, it will only shift from 3-4-3. I`ve tried

If the fabricated adaptor plate is only 1/4 inch thick, I would look into machining down the Stock (cast) adaptor that much so the trans back set is right, unless the input shaft is shorter with this trans, then one may be able to adjust for that as well providing there is enough of the cast plate left for strength.
Nice job!!
my detective work, resulted in:
near al of the CDI gearboxes are called SG-S370/6 where the 370 stands for 370nm,
wont bet any money on this yet thou...
anyone more than Hansebanger that has used one? reliable and takes a beating?
if nothing else works it seems the best is the 530d 6speed ZF gearbox..
Have a look here: http://www.clubgwagen.com/forum/viewtopi...=18&t=2913 I did this a while ago, gearbox is great. Mine is a 711.651 from a 2010 Sprinter. In the states they're called NSG370 or NSG400, and yes that's the TQ rating. But all this info is in the thread, including all ratios. Good luck.
(11-29-2013, 08:39 AM)stig Here's some photos. Don't see how you'd mate a transfer case to the back of this. BUT, if the ML or any 4x4 sedans were available in manual, then it's already done for you.
