I found it under a panel by the passenger door in the '85 300SD I just bought. I googled it and came up with nothing. Is it something emissions related?

Don't trash it just yet, I remember hearing somewhere that this can be used to wire up a tachometer

Well I ran the numbers and apparently it's the cruise/engine control module. I don't know why it has EGR on it.

On 85 models it has a tach computer in it as well as EGR function. The 85's use two tach inputs, one on the transmission and another on a normal spot (where ever that is). Your tach won't work if you take it out. You can disable the EGR at the source and have no issues.

if it don’t blow black...take it back.

1982 300TDT 4 Speed 196K Standard Beige “VEGEWGN”. 300GD FW. Walbro FRC-8 Fuel Pump. ZadaTech LCD Boost, EGT, & Fuel Pressure gauge. Non-EGR Exhaust and Intake Manifold. 3/2 Valves gone. Soon to have Elsbett WVO conversion
1981 300D 314K Midnight Blue “The Blue Car”, Lovecrap system, owned 25 years+
1985 300TD White 198K “Betty White” Pure beauty

the 'normal' spot is for test only, the tach signal is taken from ring gear teeth by sensor on trans adapter. the engine in '85 or california is prewired for the older style tach but no tach amp or wiring from plug
