-Rant-

Just spent most of the morning and early afternoon scouring junkyards looking for an extremely common and readily available air intake box and tubing from a late 90s to 2000s van.

I went to 5 different pick your own yards, and must have looked at in excess of 25 vans looking for this airbox. I found plenty of partial or damaged airboxes, but every single one was missing the top cover.

I don't understand people who rip stuff out of their way, and fling it around in the yard or off in the woods. I usually try and remove something so as not to destroy it, and place it in the vehicle when I go. This component is attached by rubber nubbins, its so easy to remove and requires no tools that I see no reason why most were wrecked.

The one good lower section I found happened to be randomly sitting in the bed of a ford. someone had thrown the thing like 3 rows. I was carrying a lesser quality lower section and saw it sitting there, so partial score.

-Rant over-

Do you guys have the copper faction in your yards? Here in B'ham AL, battery cables go first. There are people who come to the yards only to get the copper and they do it on a daily basis. They'll rip an interior apart to get a chunk of harness, destroying all sorts of good parts just to get a buck or 2 in copper.
I'm new to junkyards and was shocked by the revelation. It seems to screw up the business model of the JY, but I see them roaming around every time I show up.

Haven't seen that thankfully. I agree, that definitely ruins the yard business model. I'm surprized the yards down your way allow it

Why don't you tell the yard that they're stealing copper? Down here it's like $1/foot for wiring harness, so there's no way that would ever fly

I guess you guys would just have to see the pull a part here in B'ham. The shit that goes on there is unreal. I've had guys come up and try to walk away with parts I just removed. Walk away with my tools. Some of them see me diligently working and expect me to stop what I'm doing to explain myself to them. It seems foreign to them to see someone who knows what they're there for. There are so many of them there just aimlessly wondering around and just sort of loitering. I would film it if I didn't think it would get me kicked out.
