New to the forum here but I have seen lots of info I will use later. My plan is to swap what I think is a N/A 617 into my 1967 Chrysler Imperial. The engine came from a 1980's Mercedes van and has an auto trans on it. Engine ran great when removed and shold fall right into place of the original 440 that was in the car before. I will be turning up the pump a little and will be doing a few other mods to try and up the power. I have a bunch of turbos and a small supercharger that I would like to install but read that it is not advised on the N/A engine. How bad is it if I keep the boost low and intercool? The only clearance problem I can see is the oil filter housing. It points down at a 45 degree angle and will probably hit the firewall. Has anyone tried to make a remote filter assembly or will I be doing it for the first time? Thanks for anyones input and thanks for the info so far. Pics to follow soon.

Im not sure if boosting a NA motor is all that good of an idea, even if you keep it low on boost. The Turbo engine is alot beefier and has oil squirters for the pistons where the NA motor does not. I think there are pics of the difference between these two engines floating around here somewhere. It is totally up to you on what you want to do though.

111 tube chassis car/undergoing full restoration. Body work in progress. Merging with a 1996 S500 (119 engine, 722.6 trans, and both subframes)

2005 S55 AMG - stock

1999 SLK230 Kompressor - stock

2006 SLK55 AMG - stock

Wait go back. What happened to the van? I'll trade you a turbo engine for a running van.

The van was savagely attacked with a sawsall when my friend parted it out originally. I am getting the engine 2nd hand from him. The only things left are the front and rear axles and the engine and trans. Sorry. Sad Really wish I could trade though as I really want a turbo engine to build up. How about a big block 440 instead.Tongue
