Om603 with BMW gearbox.
Hey guys. The automatic transmission has been dead for a long time now. And I couldn't find a decent Mercedes manual tranny. And it seems the 3rd gear is always the weak link. I thought of fitting an BMW gearbox from a e36 325tds. They're plenty of those available here at a reasonable price. I've seen someone cutting the bell housing and welding on the one from a merc. I don't want to do that. How is an adaptor plate working out? It could be that I need to mill down some surface area of the bell housing but that's okay with me. My car has at the moment about 300hp but I'm thinking of future upgrades to about 400hp.
Or do I need to get a tranny from a m3 or v8 BMW engine or something? What do you guys think?
I've heard good things about the Getrag 265 (dogleg or overdrive).
One major benefit is that it has a removable bellhousing.
Did some research on them. They look good and are often used for old rwd opel's to convert to a newer turbo engine, I see that happen quiet a lot here. They are kinda rare because of this and that makes them expensive. And I still don't think they hold up 300/400 hp. But it's definably an option I keep open.

525 tds I a great cheap trans. Almost everyone in Sweden drives that on there superturbo gasoline Volvos.
If you want bulletproof, go for 530d gearbox.
Cutting and welding is almost standard or buy a trans thats already has been modified for benz.
(12-12-2013, 01:29 AM)Tito I already bought a 717.430 trans for the 603 for a bargain. In the near future i want to upgrade to a 606 engine. And then I have plenty of time to fit a bmw gearbox to it

We will see. I spend the whole day mounting it. Tomorrow the finishing touches and it done.
The 400hp will probably be with the 606 engine. I'm not thinking of further upgrading my current engine since it's a n/a engine. So 300 hp is a lot. Have had it up to 2.5 bar
