M Pump OM617A Steps
M Pump OM617A Steps
Hi,
Been lurking for a couple years on this board, but haven't posted until now. What I've learned is that to build decent power on an OM617A the only option is to swap in an M pump and have it built by one of the experts in Europe.
I've got a G Wagen that just weighs too much when fully loaded and I'm looking for decent power without swapping the motor (again). I don't need great gobs of power, but being able to climb the local mountain passes at the posted speed limit while loaded with camping gear is my goal.
So assuming I take the M-pump route, what are the key items to doing the IP swap?
I believe you need to add external oiling to the M pump. How is this done? Is there a port or something already there, or do you need to machine something?
The throttle linkage needs to be converted to a cable. Is this simply a matter of sourcing the linkage from an NA car and working something out? Any advice?
The high pressure lines need to be swapped as well. I'm sure that's pretty straightforward.
Any thing else I need to worry about? Is an M pump essentially bolt-on otherwise? I've searched and there doesn't seem to be a lot of people who've actually replaced the IP on a 617A, does anyone have an idea of the performance of the results?
Cheers and thanks,
Michael
I see you made it over here from the G forums. I haven't done the M pump swap but I have got 6.5mm tomnik elements in my MW pump (no longer available but recommend using dieselmeken for your m pump. It is definitely worth it and is a huge improvement, I have also changed my turbo and inter cooled my G. Here is the procedure for changing the pump.

Here you have a lot of peolpe that runs 617A with superpumps.
