OM606 pointers on building one.
just got done building a turbo gas engine(3liter 16psi,hx35,398rwhp,445ftlbs), but it doesnt suffice when you miss that diesel knock and whistle all the time.
i want to build the om606 for 400hp or near it. ive been out of the diesel scene for quite some time, didnt know if there has been new discovers on more US parts readliy avalabile? and how can i go about getting 300-400hp from these motors? what kind of engine work?

(06-22-2013, 10:29 PM)Gearbound Hmm 2jz is actually what I just built. Simple project really. So just slap a hx35 on and intercooler then where do I send the pump? Stock injectors? How about a manual transmission? I want to put this in my 86 300td

I don't plan on making it complicated right from the start. Just interested in what it takes and where can parts be found. I'm not sure of the engines capabilities in stock form. I'm looking for more build threads on them to see what others do and how it turns out.
the cyprus guys dynoed 600hp with stock engine and 180cc+garret turbo
(01-10-2014, 07:23 AM)Gearbound Measured at crank or chassis Dyno? Either way its still very impressive.

(01-08-2014, 08:57 PM)Gearbound were can upgraded cams, springs, retainers, big end bearing be bought at or is it strong enough to turn 7k stock?

The general rule of thumb is a little more than 100hp/cylinder for the turbocharged om605/om606. Say 550hp for a om605 and close to 700hp in a om606. So 600whp will be doable in a om606.
This is stock engine were talking about. Higher outputs will require other camshafts. Some rods and pistons would be a good investment also.
Stock valve springs can cope with 6k rpm. To rev 7k rpm you'll need tougher springs. We are currently building a om605 for 700hp, that's a 242cc Dieselmeken pump with a 7250rpm rev limiter. We also build a more moderate om604 with a 8mm Dieselmeken 180cc pump that we hope can deliver close to 400hp.
(01-12-2014, 11:26 PM)MFSuper90 Ouch, did he have any valve spring upgrades?
Or just stock?

well its also possible to put a electronic over speed unit on the engine and set it so it shut down at 6100 rpm I use them all the time on gensets for offshore they are not so expensive compared with the repair costs.
you just need a magnetic pick up and the wire for the stop solenoid and its possible to make it stop if you have low oil pressure also.

(01-13-2014, 03:22 PM)erling66 It would be very interesting to see a build thread of your 604 project
If I just get the time a thread will come.

try and look here www.ecu-engine-controls.com they have all you can think off
if it isn't fast enough that the engine stops the same way as if you turn the key you can also build in an air shut down valve but they are expensive to buy, so you have to fabricate your self to keep the price down
(01-14-2014, 12:53 AM)Gearbound So where can cams, springs, and rods be bought? Ebay has nothing for om606 parts besides stock parts
We are currently looking in to this for a record breaking +1000hp om606. If it's possible I don't know. But one thing is for sure. If you don't try you'll never know.
So there might be some rods and pistons available soon =)

I believe 1000hp is a goal that can be reached. It might take some custom parts and a good bit of money, but I think it can be done
I believe I read on a translated Finnish site that some of the hardcore 606 tuners are using aftermarket valve train components for the 2JZ-GTE... so if that's true, you already have a good knowledge base. Sorry, I can't find it at the moment.
