Hi all
Just to let you all know how I have been getting on with fitting 2 OM606 TD engines in my boat.
I have found this forum very helpful and constructed the exhaust manifold from some pictures published on the site, investigated mechanical IP fitting, and many other members’ ideas.
At first I decided to go the 603 mech IP but after many failed attempts to get good pumps and also the drop in HP from standard IP`s (without the huge cost of fitting larger elements in the pump) I thought that I would look into converting the electronics from the vehicle to run just the engine.
Well after nearly a year they are in my boat and running with the ECU and K relays running the engines, no smart key no EGR, I had to alter the wiring loom and all sorts of other items but got there in the end
They are so easy to convert the ECU`s over and you end up with just four connections Ign Feed, main feed, alternator light, and ign excite, and also you can Chip the ecu if you want more power without messing with the engine, I am looking at this as well and I think that 210 HP will be very easy to sort out.
I will post pictures later of them fitted in my boat and will soon be doing sea trails to see how they perform, will keep you informed.

'Shit the bed!' This sounds fantastic!

Question number one - Would it be possible to incorporate a boost sensor into the ECU and thus run big elements without the smoke?

Hi Maxypriest
I suppose it would be possible to alter the boost system as there is already a boost system in the ECU but I don't know without investigation.

So you're saying that the original .962 engine ECU can be made to operate the electronic pump with just a few simple wiring mods? Do you use the fly-by-wire throttle system from the original car?

If this is right you're on a winner.

Hi Yes I have used the original throttle actuator and all the sensors for the engine ie turbo valve , glow plug relay, air mass sensor, turbo boost sensor.
But it is not just wiring that needs to be altered I have cloned the ECU and reprogrammed it and fitted an imobiliser module so it can be used on any 606 962 engine and yes it uses the original elecrtoric IP. It is just plug and play system. Would be great for any OM606 transplants.

Hi I could do a conversion for you but I would need some more info, what have you got, have you got a 606 engine with electronic IP?
Donor vehicle for loom and ecu or do you need me to supply loom and ecu.
Where are you located do you need smart key or standard ign key, do you want egr disabling.
I may have given the impresion that this is an easy thing but it took quite a lot of work to sort this out and It is not that easy as some people are thinking.
Regards Kevin

Hi what sort of details do you want.
As I said I have altered the loom and fooled the ecu into thinking that all the parts are still connected. You can fit the 606.962 engine in anything with a simple key ignition or you can still use the smart key if you want.
So no need to fit the 603 IP and you can also chip the ecu etc.
Regards Kevin

I think most guys are talking about taking a 606(nithout any kind of wiring loom), bolting on a manual transmission, and dropping it into a truck/w123/lawn mower and want to get the engine running on it's own.

larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?

I have not seen the thread about the exhaust routing or if you have a dry or wet exhaust. It appears to be dry. That means it's going to be very hot all the way out the boat. Normal dry exhausts are routed straight up and then precautions are made so that the exhaust pipe is not going to cause issues with it's heat. Plumbing dry exhausts out the back near the transom is asking for trouble with that hot exhaust. Could you give more details about the exhaust? If it's a wet exhaust you then have a cooler exhaust but have other issues to deal with. I'm a marine mechanic and captain, and have dealt with exhaust systems of marine diesel up to 2600HP.

It is vital that the raw water piping/exhaust itself have a high spot so that when the engines are off sea water cannot flow back into the exhaust and get to the engine.

(01-23-2014, 12:30 PM)OM616 Is that hull a Rogers by chance?

I have no clue...Maybe you can tell me? Smile all i know is that it's a flat bottom 'dragster' hull around 18feetSmile

Are you using a modified ECU off speedwellfane to run that? Tell us more.

Why spend big money on something that you don't need...Why not just go for a easy tuned 603 mechanical pump?

Has anyone actually identified the info you need to run an om605/6 with the electric pump in a non mercedes vehicle?

my om605 is still in the care with an auto box, but i would like to keep the electric pump etc

cheers

I ask because it looks really close to mine, but the deck is slightly different..

Do you know what angle the prop shaft is? That will make a big difference in how it comes out of the water.. There were two common angles, 11 degree was for lower power pro-stock type, (up to 1000/1500 HP) and 7 degrees for the Top Fuel/Alcohol @ 2000+ HP..

Running a 7 degree with lower power isn't much fun because it doesn’t have enough power to push the hull out of the water at launch, and an 11 degree with too much power will scare the hell out of you when it jumps out of the water and then prop walks the back end around lol

[attachment=7268][attachment=7268][attachment=7268]Hi
I went out in the boat the other day and she ran fine both engines ran up to 4000 rpm and she showed a speed of 16knts.
I am going to chip the ECUs now to get them up to 210 hp and better torque so she should go even better.
I will put some pics on soon.

Nicely done. Is that a pumped seawater intercooler I see in the intake manifold?

Hi No the sea water only goes through the oil cooler then the heat exchanger and last the exhaust manifold.
I am just about to updgrade the ECU`s with a new chip which will give me 210HP and about 630 nm of tourque.

Hello
Very interested in your success, however have a question regarding a project I have had on the books for awhile. Have a Mercedes diesel engine from 2004 US sprinter van, haven't been able to get anyone to help me to get it to run in another setting.Trying to adapt it in a FJ 45 4x4 wondering if your methods with your 606 ecu would work with the sprinter engine. Your comments would be greatly appreciated. You can reach me at 47coeman@gmail.com in advance, TNX for your time.

I do not want to hijack this thread or open a new one.
But also need some info
I discussed marinization various car engine, and my one friend advised Mercedes om606. So I came to this forum.
The boat is small 6m 1.5 t, Alamarin 230 jet - impeller for Steyr mo256k43 (engine removed), power curve in att (black)

So I'm mechanic and reading forum get something like this:
-mechanic pump om603, cca 6,5 elements ?
-holset hx 35
-water cooled, intercoler, oil cooler, exhaust manifold etc..

So need 170-180 hp on 3000 rpm, 250hp on 4300 rpm.
Normal ride is 3000-3800 rpm
How long can engine hold this power, would be to much smoke on low rpm (get on plane) ?

Thanks in advice !

What is real power trough chip tuned ecu on serial IP om606 turbo   6mm elements pump...?
I doubt that can go over 210hp and maybe 400nm.

"I am just about to updgrade the ECU`s with a new chip which will give me 210HP and about 630 nm of tourque."

So Kevin statement can't be right...

That pump can push some 230PS with heavy smoke due to long injection time. That massive torque can´t be right for sure, this is not CDI. Big Grin

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ex: 525tds 130kW, C250TD 160kW, E320CDI 200kW, ML400CDI 230kW, A6 R5TDI 130kW
Now: Q7 V8TDI 240kW, 320d 150kW, 335d 210kW
