Hi all.
Has any one put a 2.9ltr om602 N/A from a T1 310d(pre sprinter)engine into a w201 chassis.Im thinking of taking this on as a project i have sorced the 310d engine and my car is a 1992 w201 190d.
i think the N/A 2.9 ltr 602 puts out 98hp are these engines tuneable at all?
i would love to go with an early sprinter 2.9 turbo but am finding it hard to find one.
any thought or advice much appriciated
regards
Alan
PS,my 190 is the 2ltr d

Sounds awesome, go for it. Just a small tune would be super nice, like 6mm elements and a hx35#12 turbo. Will be a lot of fun and durable!

I can help you out with all your manual transmission, clutch, flywheel, intake and exhaust manifold issues.

Thanks for the reply.
The engine i got is the om602 ,5cyl non turbo 2.9ltr from a T1 310d.
I was wondering if any one has used one of these engines,as standard they put out 98hp,is it possible to get maybe 130hp without a turbo by ajusting the pump alone?

SsangYong is using the same engine and with turbo/intercooler it has 120 HP so there is no way you can get 130 HP on a N/A engine without massive black smoke

but why not find a SsangYong engine there are plenty in the UK its a OM662LA engine 2,9 L

Thank you for the replies.
@Cho,air is the key alright,i was thinking maybe a k&n filter and uping the pump slightly, any idea what hp gain is possible by doing this or am i flogging a dead horse.?
@hansendk,yes hansen i have seen that people have used the Ssangong engine with mixed results, usually down to infirior build quality on these engines. Will this engine drop straight into a w201 chassis?what is your opinion on the reliability of this engine?

who told you about quality don't know what they are talking about, its the same as MB all the parts are the same they get the pistons from the same place as Mercedes if you have 2 engines side by side you cant tell the different you have to look at the oil sump because the sump is in the rear.
but what do I know I just spend the last almost 30 years working with engine remanufacturing.
Mercedes used to be a lot better than the rest but now all are stepping up and I have seen a ton off broken heads and pistons on commenrail engines before 200.000 KM, and some get very angry and say it a Mercedes it should run much more.
