Gas vs Diesel W115 M/T
Gas vs Diesel W115 M/T
The gas engine flywheel is far lighter. Transmission is the same.
Thanks for the info! I wish I had someone's number while I was there. Now, I think I want that flywheel. About the transmission, even though it was a 1970 W115 4 cylinder gas engine (220?), its transmission had an aluminum housing. Based on your post about when each transmission was used, http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/manu...ml#pid4151, does that mean it perhaps was replaced during its life?
I did get the pedals and shifter. Will have a friend get me the driveshaft. Next time I go there, if the transmission is still there I may do some deciding. I do know I want the flywheel.
The bell housings are aluminum on the older transmissions and the transmissions are cast iron!
the newer ones after 82 are all aluminum! inter graded bell housing one piece!
I am sorry for daring to consider the body of the transmission I saw to be aluminum instead of cast iron. As my signature indicates, I am not here to disagree with those with higher rank than me. So, I do apologize once again for being so dense.
Eppur si muove
