I'm planning to buy a set of Arrow Rods for my OM606 build.

Arrow don't keep them in stock, but will tool up for a production run and I wondered if there was any interest from anyone else at the same time.

I know that standard turbo rods are considered strong, but Arrow have an exceptional reputation (the Black Smoke Racing guys use Arrow rods) and for top performance they are a good choice I think.

More here: http://www.arrowprecision.com

Price range is between £1600 and £1800 depending on how many sets I order. I could arrange shipping anywhere at cost.

If you are interested, please PM me. Lead time is around 6 weeks.

so what is the specification on them?

I ask about high performance connecting rods to my specification and there was about 250-300 $/each from a serious manufacturer in the US

They will be H profile, steel http://www.arrowprecision.com/content/32...cting-rods I can find out weights etc - other specifications I can ask about. Where there specific things you would like to know? I can ask anyway.

Stuff that is in US $ is usually the same amount but in £ in the UK unfortunately.

For a split second there I thought a spare set of rods for a future crazy compound build might be a good idea, but $3000USD for a set of rods that aren't titanium....what race team are you a part of?

That's it.

VW 'borrowed inspiration' for the name (they misspelled it).

I think they rather regretted the choice shortly afterwards too with embarrassment in Europe when it became clear that the Tuareg people were rather less earthy-type 'free folk' and rather more 'rebel insurgents' attempting to overthrow a democratically elected government'

Either way, the Touareg might be good for the school run, but it will be no match for my 400 HP G Wink

I would hope the factory rods could hold up to 400HP. If your peak torque is about 400lbft too, that doesn't seem like a terribly high amount per rod in a 3L 6 cylinder. Plenty to spin all 4 wheels, but I wouldn't think it would bend rods. I don't have any experience with the 606 yet, but Nissan RBs and Toyota 2JZs can put down 400/400 without worrying about rods and I would think 606 would be at least as robust.

You are right of course - there are lots of people running 400+ with standard rods, but this engine is being built back up from scratch to what was always intended to be a high standard and in the context of everything else that has been done (head, cams, springs, valves, about 90%+ new internal components), the rods. while expensive would be a bad thing to fail 1000 miles into North Africa (and with 4 big 35" wheels to turn in difficult terrain for a heavy truck everything will be under more strain than the same engine in a saloon I think).

Original rods are just fine. We were using Arrows in our 700hp/1250Nm OM606, but we haven't heard anyone braking those originals yet (if you leak coolant on top of a piston, Arrows or any other fancy rod won't save you).

After 20000km of ridiculously hard driving we broke crank in pieces with daylight entering the block, but all 6 Arrows and 5 pistons were intact and will be reused.

Our compound OM606 4WD off-roader has original rods with something like 550-600hp/1000Nm. But then it's always closer than 2km from a tow truck...

Yeah if you're rebuilding the engine it would be nice to over build it, especially when your driving through less than hospitable terrain. I just wish the damn rods weren't so expensive. $500 per rod is absurd for a steel rod.

Yes Arrows are super but do we need that? or can less do the job

I would think that 60 to 70 % of all 605-606 is ok with standard turbo rods and of the rest maybe 5% need the Arrows
what I am looking for is a rod which is not overpriced, and I don't care where in the world its from I measure everything before I put it in the engine
I looked at 6 custom rods priced 700 euro which is more ok for me, when I look in wallet and see what's left for toys.
what I miss is some prices from all the US manufactures, so if some of you us guys could get some prices put them up here, I would be very happy
I am not in a hurry but I plan a special 2,7 L 5 cyl. and for that I need rods.

I think the auto Verdi are about as good as they come. I was quoted about 300 USD per rod last year. So that is what I would buy, if I were going to spend the money, which I will not because all the people here who have done high hp 606 motors say that the stock rods are reliable.

If you are building 1000 ft lb torque motor at 2000 rpm then perhaps it might be a good idea, but then maybe that power is not smart for reliability or the heart of Africa from 3.0 L displacememt.
