What other parts would I need for the swap into a W123? I think I'd need another flywheel, is that correct?
driveshaft needs to be shortened, clutch assembly can be made to fit
Will the shifter work?
Trying to figure this out, because I am having one heck of a time finding one of these transmissions. And would spend some money to get what I need, but I wanted to know what all else I would need.

I know Ill have to adapt it to my 617, but that's the least of my worries.

Thanks in advance everybody! Big Grin

Yeah, I know this. But I am planning on modding the bellhousing such as 5spd617. Redrilling the holes and cutting out the hole for the bellhousing and so on.

okay, back ontopic.

i have no clue regarding flywheel/clutch, what do you have now? autotragic/manual?
one could at least guess the splines to the clutch wouldnt fit.

717.411 is a single mass flywheel...

the clutch seems smaller than how i remember mine, must be from a smaller engine (that 190E, and thereby wont handle torque aswell)
dont know if the flywheel will fitt straight away anyway, but thought it worth mentioning.

the shifter will fit, with minor modifications, and the linkage can be alterered to work, welding/cutting, but if you are redoing the bellhousing that should not be a problem at al.

i have basicly no experince with dealing with the flywheels of the om617, and have no idea weather or not that flywheel will fitt.
but since you already are redoing the bellhousing, you can alter that to fit the current flywheel i think, and you just have to find a proper clutch for the splines.

what kind of numbers are you for from the engine, what differential?

om617.952, about ~130hp at the wheels and steadily increasing with time Wink Currently I have the stock 722.3 autotragic. The differential is stock, 3.07. Makes for about 3600rpm at 75-80mph Sad
The shifter is good news, I need to do some more looking on 5spd617 thread. I believe the driveshaft can be shortened to work, as well as the crossmember.

i only have om60x engines in my w123s, (or havent gotten around to removing the old parts)

are you shure about shortening the driveshaft? and that it isnt the other way around? not shure, but i think the automatic gearbox on the om616 was longer than a manual = shorter driveshaft...

i can arrange a picture of how my shifter sits in my daily tomorrow, om602 with 717.430gearbox, same shifter layout as you have on the 717.411.
althou it is crappy made and nothing difficult, the linkages is just to cut, weld and reuse Smile

According to 5spd617's thread I would have to shorten the front shaft because the w201 front shaft is too long to use, and the original shaft doesn't have the correct flange.

I wish I could say I had a 60x in my w123 Big Grin

For my swap I'm going to Fischer saw then weld two front driveshaft sections together. The two shaft diameters are jyst under 1/16" inch off, enough to help eyeball center during fitup and still be easily welded. I have a local balancing shop that I'll take the whole shaft to afterward. The two front sections were included with the trans I got from Surfrodder. One has the flange to match the 717.411's output and the other has the splines to match the 123's existing rear section. Even if one shaft fit both ends they'd both need to be shorter. I couldn't tell you what car each shaft is from but I can post pics.

Thanks E308L, I don't have any a manual yet to even mock up. And from all the other projects and how busy I am at work, I don't know if I'll get it done anytime soon. But if I find a trans pop up for a decent price, itll be mine. Then ill just have to put it together whenvever I get the time.
