Removing diff + axles together
Removing diff + axles together
Is it possible to remove the diff and axles together as one unit?
My axles in the 84 are shot, in the 85 are almost new, plus I could have the 2.88 out of it. I'm trying to make the swap as easy as possible.
I don't see why not. Get the axle out of the hubs first and than they just hang there.
But. If you haven't inspected your dif lately it could benefit you in opening it up. Once it is open the axle is just a retaining clip away from being removed. Then maybe also take the time to throw some new seals it it.

Thanks guys. Going to give it a shot soon. Greely - the one in the 85 has axles and axle seals that are about a year old and maybe 2,000 miles on them. Which is why I'm reluctant to take it apart.
