Go to www.car-part.com
Most american 300s came with the auto. Search under 240d. Many more of them came with the stick trans.
If you have an "Indy" repair shop near, they may have some laying around.

Chevy flywheels weight about the same. You want a post-86 pre-93(?) v8 flywheel. Will need machining but it's heavy.

I scored with mine, $400 for the 38#, a 28#, new disk and pressure plate, and a bunch of other junk. Seriously though, good luck finding one

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )
-1974 240D, FRESH PAINT!!!!!!

I'm working on making an inertia ring for my om616 flywheel. I haven't had much time for the mbz lately but I came up with a basic idea. Replace pp bolts with longer studs, fasten pp with lock washers and nuts the fasten the inertia ring on the studs with lock washers and nuts. The ring would be 1" steel with a bevel on rear outer circumference and recesses for fasteners. May also need a square groove on outer front circumference to set into flywheel for clearance. I think I can add 10lbs to the 616 flywheel this way and not need a 300gd flywheel. The larger clutch disc is nice but for the money I can have a custom clutch built and still save $$$. I tried to order a 300gd fw from Germany and got screwed when it was mysteriously lost in transit, had to have my bank step in and force a refund.

Edit: I also prefer the idea of a 616fw with inertia ring because if my flywheel needs to be replaced I can just transfer studs and ring to new wheel. I won't bother trying to find and buy another 300gd fw, not worth it at all to me.
