Hi all,
I'm Jim from the Netherlands. I owned a w202 with om605 turbo diesel, it was a beautiful time with the car and 150hp. After an accident with the car, I took the engine with the gearbox and the hole wiring.

One year ago I bought a w201 1.8
I love the w201 but I would like to drive it with the om605, but after doing the research I found a lot about fitting the engine and nothing about the gearbox and how to do it with the wiring, because I wanna keep my electronic pump. Don't want to use the mechanical one.

Who can help me out with the following things:

- can I use the stock om605 gearbox? How about the speed signal (cable)?
- how about the rear diff, do I have to change this one, can I use the w202 or the hole complete axle of the w202? Does it fix to w201?

- can I compare the w202 om605 wiring into the stock wiring of the w201 1.8?

I appreciate if the is someone who can help me with this, because this project is taking to long.

Not sure if the 202 diff. fits.

You would need to fit a sensor & pickups to the prob with a converter box and an aftermarket speedo IMHO.

Unless the 202 used gearbox to calculate speed then you can use the original 202 cluster if you retained it. I seem to remember the 202 using a wheel sensor for that though..

OM606/722.6, big IC, W220 brakes.

DIY manifold, compound, 722.6 controller, built IP.

you "need" to change the differential, but i am uncertain if the w202 fits,

the 190e 1.8 has something along 3.46 or 3.27 depending on gearbox+year...

the om602turbo w201 had an 2.65 differential, you do the math what rpms you will land on with the 1.8 differential. althou the w202 gearbox has a fifth gear, i would still strongly suggest getting something less high-rpm happy in the back.

(i belive you can fit a w124 differential, wich would mean a E300 (om606w124) 2.82 differential, aswell as a 300TDT om603 would be an option.

the lowest diff available from the 190 is from the om602 turbo 2.5t

Well I decide too change the gearbox, I think I have to fit an 300D (w124) automatic gearbox (722.415) in combination with a 3.07 diff of the w201 2.5D How do you think about this combination? Because of the speedo kabel. There is also an option to take another gearbox of the 300 turbo diesel (year?) 722.357 is this better? How about the ratio and the rear axle (3 point) can I change this for a little one ( I mean the gearbox output flange)?


The car has to be fast in the first and the second en third gear, but also in the fourth it has to be good for driving on the highway. For example, it will be nice when I drive 130 km/hour by 3000rpm.

But like I sad before I will use my electric pump, so I saw also kabel that goes from the transmission to the backside of the mechanical pump, where is that for? Is it necessary to use this?

Well before I get to replace the gearbox into the w201, I replaced the reardiff with 3.07 ratio.

Who can help me out with the best combination. I have three gearboxes:

- 4gear from 300TD code: 722.415
- 4gear from 300 turbo code: 722.357
- 5gear from c250 turbodiesel code: 722.436

Which one can handle the torque and has a long gear in the end (highway)!

Who can tell me something about it,
