is it possible to make idi OM662 =>> direct injection???
is it possible to make idi OM662 =>> direct injection???
So the question is,
Is m-pump can be working on direct injected OM602 from sprinter??
thanks for reading.
Wouldent fuel delivery time be to slow if running inline mechanical pump on a direct injection engine ?
I stand corrected then I thought bosch Ve pumps flowed higher amounts of fuel then inline injector pumps
hello there,
it is possible go from IDI to DI, lot of changes have to be done.
at cylinder head, new holes for glow plugs, direct injector holder.
in engine, pistons with combustion chanbers, or DI pistons from other engine.
injection pump, has to be a didicated DI pump, wich a Bosch M it is not, so a Bosch VE is the solution, most bosch VE are electrical so ECU is needed as well and along with all the hardware necessary.
i intend to do something like that, with the remains of a 612 and a 605.
so why not to share some info

There all lots of DI engines with inline pumps. Mostly what is changed is pop pressure in the injectors, but that doesn't change the pump. The same pump for an IDI should work the same for a DI in my thinking.
If not - there are plenty of mechanical VE pumps for 4, 5 and 6 cylinders from VW engines. IMO DI requires rather short injection time (not timing), at least that's what Dieselmeken wrote somewhere. On the other hand, most commercial DI engines use inline pumps. The'r far of being high reving, high output engines though. There will be a solid reason 290 engine got a VE pump...
According to bosch books the M pump is not suitable for direct injection. Why ? I have no idea.
I still think that old ford transit 7mm elements would work well for a DI application.
But that same books says that the MW pump is not suitable for IDI and max engine speed of an engine with the MW pump is 2600 rpm and we know it is used on 5000 rpm IDI OM617
That chart doesn't make much sense to me. It says the MW is only suitable for DI engines.
Interesting chart
yep , i know of a few DI engines with inline pumps, every DI engine in Komatsu heavi equipment has a diesel kiki pump wich is a copy of a P series from bosch, some ford DI aplications in agricultural tractors, use diesel international pumps. jonh deere, Scania, volvo and so on.
do u guys know as well, that DI engines require injection advance during engine RPM range , is it the same as a IDI, it is not and i dont know the diff, !
u guys do know that rotary style pump has the advance inside !
Injector pressure for DI usually is around 400BAR and above, is possible for a m pump produce a injection of that pressure during the amount of time needed for a good operation, i dont know!
those are the considerations that goes in mr Dieselmeken head , or any other person dealing with IP rebuilding and tunning,
one of this days i will try it, i bet it wont work, and i will have to go search for a VE.
regards.
