603 oil leak
Could it possibly be the one of the oil passages restricted by the head gasket has broken away? Meaning that corner of the head gasket is not sealing properly?
Yes this is a number 14 head. I have used the balkamp head gasket test and it showed that there are no coolant leaks.
Valve cover gasket is clean and new. No leaks there.
There is no mixing of oil and coolant or coolant and oil.
Any other suggestions? When I swapped motors I installed the updated waterpump housing. Are there oil passages in this install that could cause a leak?

1990 300GD SWB 463 Diesel W/ OM603A Turbo Diesel transplant
My 1987 603A which I installed into my 91 300GD has started leaking oil at the front corner just above the thermostat at the water pump housing.

09-02-2014, 11:34 AM #4Early head gaskets were breaking away from the oil supply port in this area causing leaks into the timing chain area and exterior leaks. Service head gaskets had a few improvements since '87 production. Lifters have also been improved since '87. It would be a good idea to replace those while you're in there.
- The oil passage near that area has been known to leak through the head gasket.
- The tensioner has been known to come apart and leak externally.
The tensioner is easy to test and fix. All you need is an open end wrench and the proper hex key to fit into the center. Our E300D started leaking there after 220K miles.
Concur on both possibilities:
