Heres the deal, I'm looking for a HY35w turbo within the next few months. I've found these on ebay for what appears to be a really good price. Is it too good to be true? It does not say holset. Is it worth the money?

2007 Chevy 2500HD CCSB Duramax with about 400-500 rwhp depending on the tune I use Big Grin
1983 300D Silver Exterior/Black inside - Sold and will be missed, may we never meet in a PnP.

I have this one, its okay since 1000km of driving. I noticed that the waste gate is real shit and shaft play is a lot for a new turbocharger.
Got it for 250 Dollar.

You can pick up a genuine holset for $250 used. Buying a used one would still be much farther ahead than paying for china junk

'82 300D -3" straight pipe, ALDA deleted, 3in1 glowshift gauge, HX30, egr-less manifold, A/W intercooler Big Grin
'14 Ram 6.7l cummins -G56 handshaker, wishing it was deleted

The HX35w is one of the most popular tuner turbos now. The days of the cheap, used hx35 seem to be gone. From what I've seen, used ones command a premium, even when damaged or worn.

There are mixed reviews of the chinese holsets. Additionally, they are spoken of as if they are all the same, which almost certainly isn't true. Furthermore, some seem to be evolving. Check Holset's page on how to spot a counterfeit then go to CX Racing's website and see how many of those tells are not present on those turbos.

The biggest issue that I can see is that you don't know what you're getting. I'm sure some fakes are better than others, but since they all get lumped together on internet forums, there's little way for the buyer to know. Caveat emptor.

edit: I've got hx35 on the brain. A lot of this still applies though. The used hy35 market is probably a little looser than the hx35 market

I have a genuine used HY35W that I have installed on my compound setup as the small turbo. I am thinking of going to a hx30w for my small turbo and selling this turbo message me if interested.
